Poetry Contest Successfully Held

Held on the same day as the 22ndWorld Book Day, the poetry contest was held successfully in the Lecture Hall 0220 of the First Teaching Building on the West Campus at 6 o’clock on April 23 in order to celebrate our school’s 23rdArts Festival. President Li Dayong attended and recited a verse of classical poetry “Chai-tou-feng”. Dean of College of Chemistry and Environmental Engineering Sun Xiaojun, Party Secretary Liu Changjun, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Youth League Jiang Guoyu, Deputy Director of Student Division Zhang Ying, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Xu Chunlin, Vice Dean Zhang Guiling and Ma Huiyuan, Teacher of School League Committee Cao Shi, as well as the heads of the departments, teachers, counselors and more than 400 students participated in the event.

The poetry contest known as the “Chinese poetry conference” was organized by the School League Committee, hosted by College of Chemistry and Environmental Engineering, aiming to show talent and wide range of learning of our school’s students. The judges were as follows: teacher Liu Shuangyin from College of Marxism, teacher Qin Li from College of Arts, teacher Qiao Ye from College of International Culture and Education, teacher Zhang Guohua from College of Applied Science and the Champion of the third National Poetry Contest Liu Yang.

After the preliminaries and semi-finals, eight players from seven colleges entered the final and all these finalists went through the following stages of competition: music appreciation of poetry, a question-and-answer session of poetry and classical knowledge and classical talent show.

After fierce competition, Pan Yi from College of Measurement and Telecommunications won the first prize, honored the 2017 annual “elegant talented lady”. The second prize winners were Gou Weichuan and Fang Hui from College of Arts, Hang Yutong from College of Construction Engineering. The third prize went to Zhang Hongchun from College of Mechanics, Xu Dandan from College of Management, Liu Liang from College of Electrical Engineering, and Liu Gang from College of Chemistry and Environmental Engineering. The competition set up WeChat channel by a specifically designed vote column “Gentle young wit or Elegant lady”. According to the WeChat voting site entitled “Best Popularity Award”, Pan Yi won the honor.

Readingis a way to pay tribute to traditional culture, leading the youth to the reading process of traditional Chinese poems and other forms of texts. The competition aims to promote the appreciation of cultural heritage by reading aloud, which in turn implants in students the charm of classical Chinese poetry and facilitates cultural literacy and the combination of scientific spirit and humanistic spirit. The activity also provides a cultural feast for both teachers and students and creates a healthy, learning-pursuit atmosphere of the campus culture. In addition, it makes reading a habit, especially by promoting young students to develop good reading habit with “pleasant reading”.
