On the afternoon of June 30, a defence meeting of students’ summer social practice projects was held in Room 430 of Huagong Building, South Campus, as the last preparatory stage for the summer social practice campaign that HUST’sSchool of Chemistry & Environmental Engineering launched for her students to participate in 2017.
The campaign, based on the spirit of the CYL Circular “On Enhancing the Efficiency of College students’ social practices”, aiming to cultivate students in both classrooms and society, is regarded as an important segment forSchool of Chemistry & Environmental Engineering in guiding her students to apply what they have learned at school as well as practice the core socialist values. Before the defence meeting, plenty of preparatory work has been done, including publicizing the campaign launching notice of School, mobilizing students to apply for projects and instructing the applicants to deliver better applications, etc. As a result, 42 teams made up of freshmen, sophomores and junior students from every speciality of the School, were set up to apply for engaging in projects of this campaign, among which there were special projects in chemical engineering design, innovative experiment,environmental monitoring, country life, etc, as well as common projects like popularizing law, anti-drug education, concerned & loving service, etc. Then after a series of selections, 15 teams (covering all 3 grades) were awarded as candidates to run for the School’s sponsorship in this defence meeting.
Yan Xiaochun, the League Secretary of School’s CYL Branch, Zhang Huilai, a tutor of School’s Study & development Supporting and Zhang Xichao, a tutor of School’s Student Union, attended the defence meeting as the judges, who, by reviewing all candidates’ project declarations, listening to their project introductions and questioning the value, novelty and practicability of every project, voted 6 teams sponsored by the School, including a key-sponsored one,i.e., the Group of “Beautiful China Pioneers”.
At the end of this meeting, the three judges and representatives of the 15 teams had a launching ceremony in front of Huagong Building, which heralds the formal opening of the campaign.
