Recently, the results of the“Chinese College Students’Self-Improvement Star”selection, jointly organized by The Communist Youth League of China, the All-China Youth Federation, China Youth Daily,New Oriental Education & Technology Group, and the China Youth Entrepreneurship and Employment Foundation, have been announced. Following our university’s recommendation, provincial-level preliminary evaluations, and national reviews, Zhao Xudong, a student majoring in Mechanical Design, Manufacturing, and Automation from our School of Mechanical and Power Engineering, has been honored with the 2022“Chinese College Students’Self-Improvement Star’Scholarship.”
The“Chinese College Students’Self-Improvement Star”selection event was divided into five categories: Love for the Country and Moral Integrity, Diligence and Truth-Seeking, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Community Practice, and Striving and Action. With the theme“forging ahead with enterprise and fortitude, and striving in unity”,the eventisaimedatestablishingrole models among contemporary college students who love their country, exhibit exemplary behavior, fear no difficulties, and continuously strive for self-improvement. It sought to use the power of exemplary individuals around us to guide students, encouraging them to steadfastly uphold their ideals, inherit the spirit of the red revolution, and inspire the youth of the new era to practice the youthful declaration of“pledging to the Party to make my country strong.”Starting from April 2023, our university actively promoted and extensively identified outstanding exemplary figures. We strictly followed procedures involving individual applications, recommendations from colleges, and school evaluations to carry out the recommendation process. After evaluations at the university and provincial levels, and through national selection, a total of 1,850 recipients were eventually chosen nationwide as recipients of the “Chinese College Students’Self-improvement Star”scholarships.
Zhao Xudong, a member of the Communist Party of China, currently serves as the Deputy Secretary of the Student Part-Time Youth League Committee at Harbin University of Science and Technology, concurrently holding positions as the Class Committee Secretary for Mechanical 20-3, Organizational Committee Member of the First Party Branch of the School of Mechanical Engineering, and formerly served as the Academic Assistant Class Director of Mechanical 21-9.He has been awardednine variousscholarships, including the National Scholarship, National Inspirational Scholarship, Yixun Equipment Young Eagle Scholarship, and the University’s Outstanding Scholarship. Zhao Xudong has also received honors such as“Top Ten Youth League Secretaries”,“Excellent Student”,“Study Pioneer”,“Technology Pioneer”,and has secured eight awards in national and provincial-level competitions, including the National Third Prize in the China TRIZ Cup for College Students’Innovative Method Competition, the Provincial First Prize in the Heilongjiang Province Higher Education Enterprise Competition Simulation Contest, and the Provincial Second Prize in the National College Students’Mathematical Modeling Competition. He successfully completed a provincial-level college student innovation training project, obtained five authorized utility model patents, and was recognized as an“Outstanding Individual”for his contribution to social practice reports. His research report titled“Research Report on How to Protect and Inherit Cultural Resources to Empower Rural Revitalization”was acknowledged as an outstanding investigative report.
