On March 24 and 25, the nationwide final of the 9th CMC (Chinese Mathematics Competitions) was held in Xi’an Jiaotong University. As the only HUST competitor standing out from its regional preliminary competition, Zhang Zhengqi, one of senior students majored in Information & Computing Science, participated in it and was awarded the national 3rd prize of professional group on mathematics.

Dated from 2009 and held annually, CMC has now been regarded as one of the most influential and attractive national academic competitions for Chinese undergraduates. This nationwide final converged 414 competitors standing out of more than 110,000 candidates registered for it from some 500 universities and colleges in 28 competition divisions all over China, among whom there were undergraduates of Peking University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University and Fudan University, etc. For professional group on mathematics, there were 25,462 registered candidates, with only 189 qualified for the nationwide final through tryouts.

During the last 9 years, thanks to the careful guidance of their teachers, HUST competitors won prizes again and again with their wonderful performances in CMC, which not only promoted HUST’s popularity, but also effectively boosted her reforms in both mathematics teaching and undergraduate innovative talents training mode.
