HUST’s Self-Evaluation Reports First Draft Finished Writing During Winter Vacation

According to the overall arrangement of “HUST implementation of undergraduate teaching assessment”, department heads of higher education researching and teaching assessment center’s leading organizations held frequent meetings, which discussed and deployed the written work of Self-Evaluation Reports. Each department leadership fully supported the work, including Academic Affairs Office, Development Planning Office, Department of Personnel, Students` Affairs Office, Admission and Employment Office, Youth League Committee, Innovation and Enterprise Centre, Division for Finance and Property, Division for International Cooperation and Exchanges and Principal Office. All of the leadership entirely and personally participated in the process of special writing work. With the joint efforts of everyone, the rudiments of Reports have been formed at the end of last term.

From January 11 to February 28, during the 2018 winter vacation, Liu Shenghui, the vice president convened 7 meetings to discuss the writing work of Self-Evaluation Reports. Writing team editors and appropriate personnel of professional engineering college entirely participated in the meetings.

During the Reports writing process, Vice President Liu concretely direct the writing work from many aspects such as guiding ideology, writing principle, content and request. He pointed that university assessment need to keep the policy of promoting construction, reform and management through evaluation, integrating evaluation and construction but emphasizing on the later one.

President Liu also summarized the undergraduate education work, listed the achievements and features of educational reform over the years. After analyzing the shortages during the development, he came up with effective methods to cover the shortages in order to put forward the schooling level to a new stage. He underlined that Reports is the core of assessment and the important basis for experts to know how our school runs. The writing team need to carry out work on the basis of assignments. According to the range of assessment, the report can make an overall description of undergraduate educational work in order to reflect the situation of personnel training precisely. Every subitem is the basis and gist of the whole report, otherwise, Reports is the final edit of sub items. Therefore, every editor needs to read through each items, elements and main points in the "Work Index of Undergraduate Educational Assessment " issued by HUST. After being guided by assessment factors and taking assessment scope as starting points, editor can compile the reports on the basic of grasping the main points. In the background of 'new engineering 'and fourth discipline assessment, the report can reflect certificated engineering educational concepts —"Students-centered, Output-oriented and continual improvements ". Compile the report as the following requirements: complete the contents; correspond forward problems with index points; cover all the items; express HUST’s achievements and experience with precision when compiling forward problems; exact the ideas to make report succinct; on basis of sufficient facts and data; strengthen expression results by utilizing intuitional form like charts. Inverse problems need to be modest and targeted, cover all the factors, use proper words and carry out practicable improving measures with operability and persuasion. Contents of forward problems should not be in conflict with inverse ones and emphasize the logical relationship between them. The report cannot be written in generalities. Existing problems must be directly listed, express the factors to the point and put forward some concrete suggestions to improve them. In the report, never list items like "tofu ledger" and reach new heights with the background of "Double Tops" construction. What’s more, editors cannot use assessment points as third titles but extract the title by themselves with symmetry and neatness. Each writing teams actively implemented president Liu’s order and advance the writing work by regulations. Finally, with 40 days’ hard-working of everyone and 7 group meetings, all the staff combined their efforts to finish a 100,000-word Reports, which has been reviewed and completed according to assessment items, definition of points and each relative requirement.

At the last seminar of this winter vacation, vice-president Liu expressed his appreciation to report writing staff and praise everyone for finishing the report. He said, after 7 seminars, everyone worked with one heart and had a further understanding on the problems in the process with pertinent and feasible recommendations. He emphasized that assessment is one of the events in 2018 which involved every departments of HUST and Reports is of great importance to the successful completion of HUST’s assessment. All of the editors devoted themselves to working on the front line of assessment work. For the joint efforts of everyone we wish to express our gratitude once again.
