Four years of studying together, with ups and downs, are coming to an end. Now is time to spread wings and fly high. Though passions are grand, initial aim will also be kept in mind. Here, the smell of dumplings is to be imprinted in memory, and, whenever this memory is recalled, with stronger determination the graduates will forge ahead. At noon on June 29th, President Li Dayong and graduate representatives of 2017 ate dumplings together at the third floor of Students Canteen No. 2. Among the group were also Dean Xu Xiangchen, Vice Secretary Du Ye, Vice Dean Liu Yunfeng and instructors for graduating classes.

At 12:20 o’clock, President Li arrived at the canteen, where he was warmly welcomed by students and teachers. After shaking hands with them, President Li said that it was his pleasure to attend the graduation ceremony, and that he would like to extend his thanks to the administrators and faculty members in Rongcheng College, who had consistently exerted their utmost efforts to create favorable conditions for students. To the graduate students, President Li expressed his wishes by explaining “three types of happiness”: work with pleasure; live with cheerfulness; being healthy and happy. It was his wish that graduates of HUST would enjoy a life full of peace and happiness. These words of kindness deeply touched every teacher and student. Keeping in mind the expectations of the university and the advice from the president, the graduates of 2017 will embark on a new voyage in life.

Then, President Li, Dean Xu Xiangchen, instructors and graduates sat together, eating dumplings and enjoying goodwill. During lunch, President Li exchanged words with graduates, asking them their future plans, sharing with them his own life experience, and giving them encouragement. The graduates were all emotionally overwhelmed and took selfies with the president to capture this moment. They expressed how honored they felt to be here on this memorable occasion, an experience which would be a major highlight of their university life. Inspired by the president’s kind and encouraging words, the graduates said that they would overcome all odds and forge ahead with courage, hoping one day they would add up to the glory of their alma mater, and wishing an even better future of HUST.

The sorrows of bidding farewell go beyond words. May the dumplings be the carrier of these emotions. When the graduates will one day come back again to their alma mater, a table of dumplings will be prepared for them to celebrate the reunion. The activity of giving dumplings to graduates has been organized for several years. During the graduation season, a “dumpling coupon” will be sent out to graduates, who can use it to get dumplings at the canteen free of charge. These dumplings are tokens oflove from the university. With wishes and blessings from their alma mater, graduates will courageously move ahead to a new chapter in life .
