On January 11, the 4thBohai Rim Forum for Surface Finishing Development was held in HUST, attracting some 200 delegates from the surface engineering associations, electroplating associations (societies), industrial estates and surface treatment enterprises throughout China.
As one of the most influential forums on surface engineering in Northeast of China, organized by EDCSEA (Electroplating Division of China Surface Engineering Association), the first three Bohai Rim Forums for Surface Finishing Development were held in Tianjin, Dalian and Taiyuan, and the this year’s forum was jointly hosted by Harbin Surface Engineering Association and HUST’s School of Chemistry & Environmental Engineering, aiming at sharing achievements and experiences among Chinese experts and scholars in surface engineering innovation and exploring ways of cooperation to meet their common challenges.
The forum’s opening ceremony was held in the Lecture Hall of the First Teaching Building, West Campus, under the hosting of HUST’s Director Ji Honhrui from Department of pharmaceutical engineering, School of Chemistry & Environmental Engineering. Wang Heyi, the president of Harbin Surface Engineering Association as well as chairman of the 4th Bohai Rim Forum for Surface Finishing Development made the inaugural address, while Ma Jie, vice president as well as secretary general of China Surface Engineering Association and Sun Xiaojun, dean of HUST’s School of Chemistry & Environmental Engineering, made statements respectively.

After theopening ceremony, asymposiumwas conducted withProfessor Zhu Liqun form BUAA andProfessor An Maozhong from HIT, taking the chair, in whichsome wonderful keynote speeches was made by Professor Li Ning, Doctor Gao Junjian, President Hu Guohui, Chief Engineer Zhao Jiye, and General Manager Gang Rongchen, etc., who are allfamous experts in this field, on different subjects or topicsthey are working on.
There werealsoalot of academic reports made in the afternoon’s group discussion, includingonemadebyaHUST’s young teacher, Tan Lichao, fromSchool of Chemistry & Environmental Engineering, on the application of new surface finishing materials.(Photos by Yang Jianrui)
