Recently, a happy reading program has started among the freshmen of Harbin University of Science and Technology. Supported bythe Youth League Committee of HUST, the student office, the college leaders, student leaders, counselors, the College League branch, student council and other League organizations, this happy reading program is carried out successfully every Monday in the evening classes of the freshmen. Deans, Party secretaries and well-known teachers of different schools propose the best books for the freshmen. Meanwhile, reading corners on different campuses have been set up helping students to establish a good knowledge system and to develop a good habit of reading. The aim of this program is to encourage students to read good books, to further enrich the campus culture, to promote the scholarly campus environment, and to create a good style of school spirit.
At the beginning of the program, the Youth League Committee keeps a file of the readers’ names, the number of attendees and the qualities of reading. The attendance and the result of this program are graded and put into the students’ second class assessment to promote the integration of humanistic spirit and scientific spirit. Let happy Reading become a kind of life style, and the university be a special effective place for personnel training and practice.
