HUST Holds Academic Seminar for Academician Lei Qingquan on 55thTeaching Anniversary and 80thbirthday

Professor Lei Qingquan, China’s famous insulation technology experts, Chinese Academy of Engineering, on occasion with his eighty years old, “The Academic Seminar of Academician Lei Qingquan on 55^thteaching anniversary and 80^thbirthday” was sponsored by the Institute of Electrical Engineering, which was held on the afternoon of July 23 at the multifunctional hall of No.1 Building, West Campus. This seminar was attended by many scholars, like School party secretary Zhao Guogang, principal Li Dayong, vice president Fang Wenbin, Engineering Dielectric Chinese Electrotechnical Society director of special committees. Xi’an Jiaotong University professor Li Shengtao, deputy director of Engineering dielectric, Tongji University professor Zhang Zhiwen, deputy director of the Committee of Engineering dielectrics.Professor Zhao Hong of our school, Secretary General of dielectric engineering, professor Zhong Lisheng of Xi’an Jiaotong University. Deputy Secretary General of the Committee of Engineering Dielectric, Professor Li Jianying of Xi’an Jiaotong University, Professor Fei Weidong of Harbin Institute of Technology, Professor Jiang Pingkai of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Professor Wu Guangning of Southwest Jiaotong University. Leadership in our school of electrical engineering, some of our school teachers and students of academician Lei participated the seminar. The meeting was presided over by the Vice President Fang Wenbin.

Zhao Guogang, Party Secretary of our university, delivered a speech at the meeting. Secretary Zhao said, “we observed three unique merits from Academician Lei. Firstly, he dedicated to science and race to the top; secondly, the life long learning and full of perseverance; thirdly, hard work, simple life and positive attitude.” In 1962, Academician Lei came to Hei Longjiang province, to Harbin Electrical Engineering College, to Harbin University of Science and Technology. He witnessed 55 years on this black earth. We can use three a’s to sum up the achievements and contributions of academician Lei: An academic leading authority; a flag; an irreplaceable contribution. On behalf of the university party. Secretary Zhao express highest respect and heartfelt thanks to academician Lei, and best wishes to this "post-80s” generation. Hoping all the people of College of Electrical Engineering can study and inherit the spirit of dedication to the science: dedication to science and race to the top; the life long learning and full of perseverance; hard work, simple life and positive attitude.Striving to build a first-class discipline, leading the development of industry and region, building brilliant school, creating glory again.

The director of Special committee of engineering dielectric of China electrotechnical society, Xi’an Jiaotong University professor Li Shengtao delivered a speech at the meeting.On behalf of the special committee of engineering dielectric of China electrotechnical society, State Key Laboratory of electrical insulation for power equipment and Electrical Engineering College of Xi’an Jiaotong University.He expressed the best wishes to Academician Lei and admiration for his outstanding contributions and outstanding achievements made by academician Lei in the academic field.He advocated that young generation will follow academician Lei’s foot steps.To study his precious spirit of rigorous scholarship, realistic work style, the noble quality of patriotic dedication, simple and diligent attitude towards life, making great contribution to their own strength for the development of the China’s science and technology and the revitalization of China, at the same time, blessing academician Lei a happy life.

On behalf of HUST, President Li Dayong presented souvenirs to Lei. On behalf of Special committee of engineering dielectric of China electrotechnical society, Professor Zhong Lisheng of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), secretary-general of Special committee of engineering dielectric of China electrotechnical society, presented souvenirs to Lei. Professor Chen Qingguo, Dean of School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, presented souvenirs to Lei on behalf of electrical engineering college. Other guests also expressed their wishes to academician Lei by their own way.

Our university Professor Zhao Hong gave a retrospect report on of achievement academician Mr. Lei. As fifty-five years zipping by, struggling experiences and exciting moments were still fresh in our mind. During the fifty-five teaching years, Mr. Lei was persevered in scientific study and adept in research direction that on the epoch and science level, the decisions of subjects were perspective and initiative. Once the target could be affirmed, he made unremitting efforts and devotes himself to the research, never gave up until getting the target. Major results had achieved through arduous efforts by Mr. Lei with more than ten years.

How time flies: a teacher once was in the full vigor on life in those years, Mr. Lei was eighty years, he was devoted himself to impart knowledge and educate people for fifty-five years, buried himself in scientific research and pursued truth. He had many students who were the same age as Mr. Lei, some were in theirs fifties and sixties, and others were even in theirs prime and vigorous. Mr. Lei’s career was succeeds by talent, his outstanding achievement would be enshrined in memory and struggling experiences would be good example. His struggling spirit would encourage us to build university and discipline of first-rate, pursue province of industrial, seek electric power of industrial and strive for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation’s goal.

Academician Lei gave an academic report about “An electrical super-insulator prototype-Dimensional Gas-Solid Sodium Acuminate cellular” in the meeting. Beginning with the low physical–weird physicochemical properties, Academician Lei pointed out some problems that insulator in the dielectric of engineering had interface complexity at present, the unit of comprehensive physical was not articulate, and so on ,which was result in difficulties in functional control. Mr. Lei had been hard explored nearly ten years after the Fragrance Hill meeting, Nanometer Cell concept was proposed initiatively on the base of three M[Micro-Meso(nano)–Macro] relationship and proved by experimental. The structure of Nanometer material had highly breakdown, realizing the goal through structure construct and controlling the function of material. Scientific system of new insular media was formed; it was the important progress in nanometer dielectric theory. In the meeting, the guests and students listened to the report carefully and communicated with academician Lei about some academic issues. Students of Academician Lei gave him flowers at the end of the report.

“What make a good university are the amount and quality of masters it owns, instead of the amount and quality of buildings that stands”. Masters of talented leaders are the crucial factors to the development of university.

The staff teachers and students are committed to carry the torch of assiduous study of academician Lei Qingquan , persevere study spirit, devote to scientific and career .He is indifferent to fame and wealth, working for country, imparting knowledge and educating people, undertaking spirit of cultivating genius, all of these are admirable.

The discipline construction in Harbin University Of Science And Technology will continue to reach a new level under the leading of school committee!
