On May 27, 2017, the 7thNational College Students Competition of Computer Application and Information Literacy—big data technology competition, sponsored by institute of basic computer education in Colleges, Computer Education Research Association of Chinese Higher Education, Journal of Computer Education Agency, Northern International University League, was held in Harbin Guangsha College successfully. Our School of Software sent eight teams to participate in the competition, and won one national first prize, two national second prize.
The competition is intended for all college students majoring in any grade, any major, and registered in students’ own schools with each group three participants. 137 contestants from fifteen provinces, autonomous regions from over 30 universities including Jilin University, China University of Mining and Technology, Shanxi Agricultural University and other universities. The competition consists of two rounds. The first round is an online contest, which is automatically marked; the second round is a comprehensive task in which contestants searched and analyzed large data according to the given data , and came up with a solution and presented the result according to the requirements. Then, their performance will be judged by professional judges. Finally, according to the score of the two rounds of competition, rankings, and winners will be determined. When the two teams tied, they were ranked by performance duration.

This is the first time for our school to have participated in such events, and teachers of School of Software guided comprehensively the contestants from competition form, competition rules, content, competition environment, and shared game related data timely. The success of competition has greatly improved the students’ data application and team cooperation, but also shows the active participation in developing students’ practical abilities with the approach of the era of big data.
