HUST Student Wins a 1st Prize at the National Final of the 2nd “FLTRP Cup” National English Reading Contest

From December 7 to 12, the national final of 2016 “FLTRP Cup” National English Uchallenge was held successively in FLTRP International Convention Center, Beijing. Hundreds of competitors from 30 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions who were selected through layers of local contests, attended the contest of public speaking, reading or writing.

The reading contest, or the national final of the 2nd “FLTRP Cup” National English Reading Contest, attracted 90 excellent competitors on behalf of every province, municipality and autonomous region, including Li Haiyang, a HUST undergraduate of Grade 2015 majoring in Electronic Information Science and Technology, who won the champion in Heilongjiang Provincial Final of “FLTRP Cup” National English Reading Contest held on October 29.

During the 120 minutes’ contest time, Li and other competitors finished four competition segments, i.e. Read and Know, Read and Reason, Read and Question, Read and Create, and by making live online multiple choices and short answer questions on the Unipus, he successfully became one of the 10 first prize winners.

Jointly hosted by FLTRP and MOE’s College Foreign Language Teaching Steering Committee, Professional English Teaching Guidance Committee and Chinese Foreign Language Education & Researching Center, the annual “FLTRP Cup” National English Uchallenge can be regarded as the English contest for undergraduates of largest scale and highest level in China, and is always being paid great attention by all Chinese universities and colleges. In fact, to help Li to participate in this Reading Contest, HUST’s leaders and teachers from both Department of Teaching Affairs and School of Foreign Languages had done a lot of solid preparatory work.

Over the same period, the national final of 2016 “FLTRP Stars of Teaching” National Contest for College English Teachers was held as well. Professor Jiang Yufeng, the dean of HUST’s School of Foreign Languages and chairman of Heilongjiang College Foreign Language Teaching & Researching Association, served as a judge in this Contest.
