Introduction toSchoolofElectricand Electronic Engineering

School of Electric and Electronic Engineering has two undergraduate specialties including Electrical Engineering and the Automatization which is a national key specialty and Electronic Information Engineering which is a provincial key specialty. The school hasDoctoral Degree Granting in Electrical Engineering covering six second-class disciplines, which are High Voltage and Insulation Technology (a national key discipline), Electrical Machinery and Appliance (a provincial key discipline), Power Electronics and Power Drives (a provincial key discipline), Electrician Theory and New Technology, Electric Power System and the Automatization, and Dielectric Medium Engineering. Besides, the school provides Master’s Degree program in Signal and Information Processing, and Engineering Master’s Degree in the discipline of Electric Engineering. The School is also authorized to cultivate and grant Master’s Degree for university teachers in Electrical Machinery and Appliance, Electric Power System and the Automatization, High Voltage and Insulation Technology, Power Electronics and Power Drives, and Electrician Theory and New Technology. Electrical Engineering has the center for post-doctoral studies. Furthermore, the school is equipped with the Dielectric Medium Engineering Laboratory which is a key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, the Automotive Electronics R&D Center which belongs to the automobile R&D center of the Ministry of Education, theElectrical Engineering and the Automatization Experiment and Research Center, as well as the Electrical Machine and the Control Laboratory which is a key research-based laboratory of provincial regular institutions of higher learning.

The School with a strong research potential comprises two high-tec development corporations, one automotive electronicsR&D center, and five research laboratories in cable technology and materials, electric insulation measurement techniques, special electric machines and the control, power electronics application, and electrician theory and new technologies. These research branches are mainly engaged in all kinds of cable materials, cable industrial process control, electric insulation ageing and bug mechanism, insulation measurement techniques, the basic theory of large electric machines, special electric machines, high voltage equipment and the diagnostic techniques of insulation, the recuperation and control system of special electric machines, and the research and development of computer application soft wares and automotive electronics.

The School with proficient teaching staff possesses 106 teachers, among whom thirty professors, twelve doctoral supervisors, forty master supervisors, one academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, one scholar under theResearch Fund for the Program of New Century Excellent Talents, two provincial scholars of Heilongjiang, one national prominent teacher, and six scholarsentitled to government subsidies of the State Council. Over 55% of the teachers have already received the Doctor’s Degree, and 85% the Master’s Degree, thus forming the teaching staff of doctors and excellent young teachers as the backbone. Currently, there are tens ofprojects of national, provincial and bureau level which are in the research.More than 300 papers are published every year, among which around 80 have been included by SCI, EI and ISTP. According to incomplete statistics, the school has cultivated and educated more than ten thousand graduates with professional skills, hundreds of achievements in teaching and scientific research are awarded, and tens of academic works are published. School ofElectric and Electronic Engineering has made significant contributions to the electric science and technology and the educational enterprises ofChina.

Electrical Machinery & Appliance andthe Control has the R&D Center of LargeElectrical Machinery & Applianceand Heat Transmission Engineering co-founded by HUST and Harbin Electrical Machinery Plant LLC., which is a key laboratory of provincial regular institutions of higher learning. Besides, the specialty has bothDoctoral Degree Granting and Master’s Degree Granting.

Electric Insulation and Cable, one of the specialties with the longest history, is a dominant and characteristic specialty in Electrical Engineering and the Automatization, which is a national first-class featured discipline. HUST is the only university with this major field inChina, and therefore enjoys a high reputation in electric insulation and cable manufacturing industry. This specialty isone of the two specialties subordinated to the Doctoral Degree Granting disciplines of High Voltage and Insulation Technology and Dielectric Medium Engineering, which are both national key disciplines. It has the key laboratory of Engineering Dielectrics and the Application which is jointly constructed byHeilongjiangprovince and the Ministry of Education, and the provincial key laboratory of Dielectric Engineering.
