Introduction to theSchoolofArchitecture
Architecture and Engineering College of Harbin University of science and technology was established in 2005, which has three undergraduate majors, including architecture, civil engineering or mechanical engineering. At present, there are 712 undergraduates in school, a staff of 46 and 40 teaching staff, including 5 professors and 10 associate professors. In teachers there is one New Century Excellent Talents of Ministry of Education, one Specially-appointed Professor of Longjiang Scholar, one winner ofHeilongjiangProvinceeminent youth fund, one winner of Heilongjiang Province Youth Science and Technology Prize, two First Class Registered Architects and three First Class Registered Engineers. There are 5 teachers with doctor's degree, 27 teachers with Master's Degree, 1 doctorial tutor and 2 master instructors. College has also recruited a group of well-known scholars as part-time professor, which has formatted a rational constructive and energetic teaching staff.
College has foundedEngineering Mechanics, BuildingEnergy-saving, Building Models, Building Surveying, Building Materials, Soil Mechanics and Foundation Laboratories, which possesses many advanced equipments used for teaching and science research. Its building area is about 1600 square meters. In recent years, College teachers have presided and participated a number of national and provincial scientific research projects, including the National “863”project, the National “973”projects, the National Defense “973”project, National Nature Science Fund Project, the Education Department of Heilongjiang Province and manyHorizontal topics.In recent years, over 100 papers have been published, over 50 of which were collected in SCI, EI, and over 10 textbooks have been published.
The college attaches great importance to domestic and foreign academic exchanges and cooperation. In recent years, we have invited specialists and scholars of foreign prominent university and research institution fromUniversityofNottinghamfrom theUK,UniversityofSheffield,University of WesternOntario, and Airbus of UKto give lectures. At the same time, college has established close cooperative relations with university and science and research institution such as Tsinghua University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Institute of chemistry of theChineseAcademyof Sciences, which effectively promoted the development of college teaching and subject construction.
College takes revitalizing the northeast old industrial base as the turning point, closely integrating with the city engineering construction development need, insisting on education direction of combining theory teaching with engineering practice ,forming rigorous, pragmatic, harmonious academic atmosphere and excellent education environment.

Specialty Characteristics and Teaching Requirements
The students majoring in this field mainly learn fundamental theory and knowledge in such fields as architectural design and theory, architectural technology, spatial formation and architectural art; accept the fundamental training in such fields as architectural design, artistic notion, the energy-saving building techniques and engineering practice; and have the strong ability in teaching, science and research, manufacture and management in the field of architecture planning and design.
Our Graduates May Acquire the Knowledge and Capacity in the Following Aspects
1. To master the fundamental principles and methods and have the independent capacity of designing buildings and using many means to express their design ideas; to have the basic skill of CAD in architecture; to preliminarily master the energy-saving building techniques.
2. To understand the fundamental knowledge of the law of China and foreign architecture development and architectural and environmental psychology; to understand the fundamental knowledge of economy, laws and regulations in relation with architecture; to understand the relevant knowledge of frontier subjects and cross subjects of architecture.
3. To preliminarily master the fundamental knowledge of architectural structure, building implements and environmental control for building, the principles and methods of building construction and the common building materials and new materials behavior, and have the capacity of rational selection and comprehensive application.
4. To have the capacity of mapping architectural design scheme and working drawing.
5. To have basic cultivation of architectural aesthetics.
6. To have the preliminary capacity of reading and translating the foreign materials in this field and the computer application skills.
Study on the building energy-saving technology and ecological architecture design, study on the architectural design and theory, and study on theurban planning and landscape design.
Length of Schooling
The planned length of schooling is five years.
Architectural Design，Theory of Landscape Design, History of Chinese Architecture, History of Foreign Architecture, An Introduction to Ecological Construction, Architectural Structure, Building Construction, Architectural Physics, Building Implements, Descriptive Geometry, Shadow and Perspective, Plastic Arts Basis, Planning Basis and Design.
Our students may work in the management, design, study and development and so on in connection with architecture, urban planning, and environmental landscape design and so on after graduation.

To training board-basic and high-quality talents who can adapt to the 21st century socialist modernization contraction; who are all around development of moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetics; who master the basics capability of civil engineering programming, designing, researching and development, construction and management; who can engage in designing, researching, construction, supervision, investment and other aspects.
Department of Civil Engineering was established in 2005. It is the grass-roots units of Harbin University of Architecture and Engineering.

Department of Civil Engineering has15 in-service teachers, 12 external teachers now.
Two professors, three associate professors, seven lecturers and three assistants of In-service teachers; one with doctor's degree, thirteen with master's degree, six study doctor degree at their posts, three have country-level registered structural engineer qualification, one with Highway supervision Engineer qualification. External teachers of our department are from Harbin Institute of Technology,ForestryUniversityand other prestigious universities, all of them with vice senior and senior professional and technical titles.
The students study natural science knowledge base and technology base and a variety of practice to master the basic theory of modern civil engineering, structural design and construction of the basic principles, economic management and related technologies, with abilities to analyze and solve practical problems.
With a solid foundation of natural science, the better humanities, arts and social science foundation, good spoken and written language skills and with strong computer and foreign language proficiency.
More grasping systematically technology basics of the broad fields, including mechanics, foundation engineering, design principles of reinforced concrete structures, bridge engineering, civil construction, and civil engineering materials.
Comprehendingthe frontier and the latest developmentsof civil engineering; comprehendingconstructionmethodprinciples, policies and regulationsof civil engineering.
With the ability of innovation and acquiring knowledge independently; mastering civil engineering construction technology and construction organization, project budget and project bidding, project supervision, and other basic knowledge and skills.
One obtains engineering practice training of civil engineering, with strong analytical problem-solving abilities and practical skills, with the initial capacity of the engineering design, testing, construction, management and research.

Engineering mechanics, structural mechanics, soil mechanics, foundation, civil engineering materials, surveying, basic principles of reinforced concrete structures and design, the basic principles of steel construction technology, roadbed pavement engineering, bridge engineering.
Our main objectives are to trainthe compound senior engineering and technical personnel with mechanical and mathematical theory basis and engineering knowledge , who can engage in engineering structure strength analysis, optimization design, system fault diagnosis, development of engineering technology and software related to mechanics in the cross subject such as Material, Biology and Ecological Environment.
Through the professional learning, the students could get the basic knowledge of engineering, experimental techniques, computer software development, electronic technology and other aspects of training, so that they could be equipped with the application of computer and modern experimental techniques, so as to solve the engineering mechanics problems.
Include: Higher mathematics, foreign language, mathematics, mechanics, material mechanics, structural mechanics, elastic mechanics, vibration, finite element method, data structure, engineering calculation software and its application.
Graduates are qualified to engage in engineering mechanics research, system fault diagnosis, computer software development, and product optimization design in the fields of machinery manufacturing, civil engineering, aerospace engineering, material engineering or related fields; or engage in teaching, scientific research and design work in higher vocational schools, research institutes, design institutes and enterprises and departments.
