With “Promoting the Spirit of Teamwork, Admiring the Beauty of Snow and Demonstrating the Vitality of Youth” as the theme, an outdoor activity on the snow of the young teachers of HUST was held in Maoershan Skiing Park of Harbin Sports Institute on January 6, 2014. Hosted and sponsored by HUST Labor Union, the activity was undertaken by Young Teacher Association in the hope of providing an interactive platform for academic and emotion exchange, establishing cooperation consciousness, demonstrating volitional quality of fortitude and stimulating young teachers’ enthusiasm for work. Yang Chun (Chairman of HUST Labor Union), Qi Kaijun (Vice Chairman of HUST Labor Union), Gao Qingshan (Vice Chairman of HUST Labor Union) and more than 160 members of the Young Teacher Association took part in the activity.

On the very morning of the winter break, the young teachers started their journey to Maoershan Skiing Park from the West Campus in four coaches with “Harbin University of Science and Technology” painted on both sides. During the 2-hour journey, some teachers were getting to know each other, some telling jokes, some discussing academically, and others talking intimately. Strangers became acquaintances and acquaintances turned into bosom friends. All the way, the coaches were filled with songs, laughter and cheers.

In the park, the sun was shining dazzlingly in the sky and wind was blowing gently. The red banner of HUST and that of the Young Teacher Association looked brighter and more eye-catching against the white snow. Young teachers’ smiling faces were etched with youth, vernal freshness and vitality. In skiing, beginners kept stumbling on the skis in fear. Sometimes they fell down and stood up bravely. Partners would also come in time to offer their help. Everywhere in the park appeared a scene of fortitude, persistence, friendship and teamwork. Good skiers slid down swiftly and gracefully, which was joyful and visually exciting. Everybody had great fun in the activity.

For decades, HUST have placed great emphasis on the growth of young teachers in all aspects—strengthening their academic exchanges in teaching, research, management and the like, enriching their cultural life in their spare time and helping to raise their research and teaching abilities. The young teachers appreciated the university very much and said that they would repay the university by actual deeds—working harder, enhancing their professional competence, updating their teaching notions and raising their teaching levels. They make up their minds to devote their youth and wisdom to developing HUST into a first-class and high-level research university and doing contributions to its greater glamour.
