[Good News] HUST Students Achieve Outstanding Results in the Final of 2023 National College Students English Competition

The National English Competition for College Students (NECCS) Finals was held in Yinchuan, Ningxia Autonomous Region from August 2nd to 7th, 2023. Liang Wenlong, student from Class 3 of the 2022 Architecture Department at our university, won the first prize in the English speech competition, the second prize in the English talent show, the third prize in the English debate competition, and was awarded the title of“Outstanding Contestant”.

The National English Competition for College Students is jointly organized by the International Association ofForeign LanguageTeachers, the China Association ofEnglishTeachers, and the College Foreign Language Teaching Research Association. It is a large-scale comprehensiveEnglishability competition for college students. Since its establishment in 1999, more than 1.2 million students from over 1,200 universities in 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across the country participate in this competition each year. A total of 373 participants took part in this year’s finals. These participants are all winners of the NECCS provincial competition and represent the highest level of English proficiency among college students in China. Liang Wenlong, from our university, together withothereight students, formed the Heilongjiang Province team. TheAssociation President of HeilongjiangAdministry Committee on Teaching English Language in Higher Education,Professor Jiang Yufengwas invited topresentas a judgeonthe finals, while Teacher Guan Ning from theourForeign LanguagesSchoolserved as the team leader of the Heilongjiang Province team and was awarded the title of“OutstandingTeam Leader”

The competition aims to stimulate students’interest in learning English, promote comprehensive improvement in students' English proficiency, help students solidify their English knowledge and skills, enhance students’ comprehensive English proficiency, and promote the overall improvement of English teaching quality in universities. In May of this year, more than 700 students from our university participated in the preliminary rounds, and 5of themadvanced to the provincial competition stage.
