Held from July 30 to August 1,the 5th Conference on Dielectric Polymer Materialstook place in Harbin. This conference, a significant academic event in the field of dielectric polymer materials in China, was organized by the journalIET Nanodielectricsand hosted by HUST. The event was attended by esteemed figures includingpresident Liu Xia of HUST, Academician Zhu Meifang of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Academician Zhou Ji of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. With over 350 experts and scholars in attendance, this edition of the conference marked the largest in its history.Professor Dang Zhimin of Tsinghua University served as the chair of the conference, with Professor Liu Ji, Dean of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Professor Chi Qingguo from the Department of Electrical Insulation and Cables as executive chairs. The conference delved into recent hot topics and frontier issues in the field of dielectric and electric insulating materials, such as“Polymers and Composite Dielectrics,”“Electrical Materials and Electrical Insulation”, and“Electromagnetic Shielding Materials”. It provided an essential platform for domestic experts, scholars, and graduate students in the dielectric polymer field to exchange high-level research achievements.

Renowned experts Academician Zhu Meifang of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Academician Zhou Ji of the Chinese Academy of Engineering presented forward-looking keynote speeches.

Cai Wei, professor from HUST, along with scholars from other institutions, delivered splendid presentations during the conference. The event also featured presentations by 12 distinguished experts: Professor Li Jian from Chongqing University (represented by Associate Professor Huang Zhengyong), Professor Fu Qiang from Sichuan University, Professor Li Tiefeng from Zhejiang University, Professor Shen Qundong from Nanjing University, Professor Mai Liqiang from Wuhan University of Technology, Professor Zhang Guanjun from Xi’an Jiaotong University, Professor Shao Tao from the Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Cheng Qunfeng from Beihang University, Associate Professor Zhao Huichan from Tsinghua University, Professor Qian Xiaoshi from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Professor Zhang Chong, Senior Engineer from the State Grid Intelligent Power Research Institute.

Academic Reports by Academicians and Experts

The event also featured 50 invited reports by experts in the field of dielectric polymer composite materials, covering various research perspectives such as polymer dielectric energy storage, high-field insulation, electrical materials, and electrical insulation. For the first time, the conference included seven thematic discussion sessions to facilitate the exchange of the latest research results. At the closing ceremony, awards were presented, including the Young Scholar-Outstanding Presentation Awardfor five young scholars, theRisingStar-Outstanding Presentation Award, and theRisingStar-Outstanding Poster Award for ten graduate students. This recognition aimed to encourage young scholars to actively engage in cutting-edge research on dielectric polymer composite materials. The opening and closing ceremonies were presided over by Professor Chi Qingguo.

Award Ceremony at the ClosingCeremony

This conference, the largest academic event organized by the School of Electrical Engineering this year, received unanimous praise from participants for its meticulous arrangements. Under the guidance ofvicepresident Chen Qingguo, the organizing committee held several preparatory meetings, involving multiple functional departments of the university. Over 20 faculty members and more than 40 graduate students from the School of Electrical Engineering actively participated in various service tasks during the conference, providing attentive support to the attending experts and scholars. The successful hosting of this conference greatly enhanced the influence ofHUST’selectrical engineering discipline and made a positive contribution to the university’s efforts in building a world-class institution.
