The 12th National College Student Metallographic Skills Competitionwas held at Zhengzhou University from August 9th to 14th. After three days of intense competition, our students won one first prize and five third prizes, and three teachers received thetitle ofOutstanding Guidance Teacher. Ouruniversitywonthe Outstanding Organization Award.
The National College Student Metallographic Skills Competition is one of the national academic competitions announced by the Ministry of Education and is the most prestigious and influential competition in the field of materials majors. The competition aims to continuously improve the quality of talent training. This year’s competition officially started in March. In the preliminary stage, a total of 8,361 participants were selected from 507 universities across the country. In the semi-final stage, 1,431 students from 26 regions stood out and advanced to the national finals. A total of 246 first prize winners, 613 second prize winners, and 1,590 third prize winners were selected in this year’s finals.Our universityattaches great importance to this event, with the academic affairs office and the School of Materials and Chemical Engineering actively organizing student participation inrelevanttraining. 6 students were selected as finalists after the school competition,3 students eventually entered the finals. During the finals, participants were required to prepare samples from two out of three specified materials within three days. Each participant had to complete procedures such as grinding, polishing, etching, and microscopic observation on the specified surfaces of the samples within 30 minutes. The quality of the samples was then examined and scored by judges based on factors such as the quality of the metallographic images, surface quality of the samples, and procedural standards. Under the guidance of teachers Jiang Wenyong, Feng Yicheng, and Wang Changliang, our students displayed the spirit of dedication and the pursuit of excellence.

The teachers and six students gave up their holidayfor the preparation of the contest. They also engaged in friendly competitions withotherschools, which helped to improve the students’mental resilience and professional conduct. Their resilient and courageous spirit on the competition field also served as a role model, inspiring other students to strive for excellence and contribute to the development of the discipline, ultimately bringing honor to the school.
