Graduation came as scheduled in the chaos of the army, and youth came to an abrupt end in stumbling.On the morning of June 15th, the 2023 President-Graduateseminarwas held in the fourth conference room of Buildingonein the west campus.President Liu Xia had cordial exchanges with 57 representative graduates from various majors in theclass of 2023. Among them were outstanding graduates representing Heilongjiang Province, student leaders rooted in Heilongjiang and serving at the grassroots, research talents continuing their academic pursuits, and outstanding students entering key national sectors. Zhao Shuishan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee ofHUST, and relevant department heads attended theseminar, which was presided over by Dai Xiangzhu, Minister of the Student Affairs Department.

Just as a river, in its journey of a thousand miles, cherishes its distant source, and a towering tree, soaring to great heights, remains rooted in its origins, so must one, in the pursuit of aspirations, never lose sight of their heartfelt beginnings.The student representatives, drawn from various majors, shared their growth experiences, discussed youth aspirations, and talked about future development plans, expressing gratitude for the education provided by the university. President Liu Xia attentively listened to the students’remarks, and officials from various departments recorded valuable suggestions from the graduating class.

In the group of student leaders rooted in Heilongjiang and serving at the grassroots: Ning Yuhang from Mechanical EngineeringClass5Grade2019, representing the graduate support teaching team, expressed the commitment to deliver knowledge to students in mountainous areas, supporting rural revitalization through grassroots education. Li Siyuan from Accounting ResearchClass3Grade2020, representing the graduate student,lookedbackthe growth and experiences during the postgraduate period,and alsopledgedto contribute to the high-quality and rapid development of theuniversityin the futureas a university counsellor. Wang Xu from LawClass1Grade2019 and Ben Fujia from Applied PhysicsClass1Grade19, representing selected students and graduates of the China’s Far West Program, expressed gratitude for the school’s cultivation and committed to steadfastly fulfilling their grassroots service responsibilities. Among the research talents continuing their academic pursuits: Liang Zhichao from Electrical EngineeringClass4Grade2019representing those enlisted in the military, shared life-changing experiences in the army and expressed sincere thanks for the favorable policies provided by the school for returning soldiers. Mo Kezong from Electrical EngineeringClass1Grade2019, who came to study in Harbin from across China, expressed gratitude for the guidance of teachers and care from classmates, vowing to continue the journey with the glory of the university in his heart. Song Zhai from Robotics EngineeringClass2Grade2019, whose class won the title of“Vibrant Youth League Branch”in the 2022 national university rankings, expressed enthusiasm for public welfare and joy for the opportunity to continue further studies at the university. Hu Baichao from StatisticsClass1Grade2019shared experiences from participating in social practice and the provincial Youth Horse Training Program, thanking the school for providing a platform for students' exercise. Hu Bo from RussianClass1Grade2019shared the difficulties overcome while learning Russian and hoped for more inter-grade communication events organized by the school. Li Zhanhe from Software EngineeringClass1Grade19, Zhang Jijin from TelecommunicationsClass1Grade2019, Wang Zijia from ArchitectureClass2Grade2018, and Han Yifan from AccountingClass3Grade19shared their university stories and expressed gratitude for the good learning environment and educational opportunities provided by the school. They pledged to remember the“Da Heng Spirit”and strive for success.Among the outstanding graduates entering key national sectors: Ma Songyuan from Materials ChemistryClass1Grade19reviewed his four years of growth, thanked the school for providing platforms and opportunities, and expressed his determination to continue the“Da Heng Spirit”in practical actions. Kairibinur Tumur from Information EngineeringClass3Grade19, as a representative of minority graduates, sincerely thanked the school for providing educational resources to improve the learning level of minority students and for the meticulous care and support in life.

The responsible officials from each department attentively listened to and recorded the opinions and suggestions put forward by the student representatives. They provided detailed answers to the students’relevant questions and expressed their commitment to continuously improve and perfect the issues raised by the students in future work. They promised to respond to the students’concerns with practical actions and better serve the students’growth and development.

At theseminar,president Liu Xia attentively listened to the speeches of the student representatives, congratulated them on successfully completing their studies and finalizing their career paths, and felt gratified for the remarkable achievements of the 2023 graduating class during their time at the university. On behalf of the university,he offered several suggestions for everyone entering a new stage of study and work.First, learn to distinguish right from wrong. Faced with global changes, arm yourselves with the correct outlook on life and values. Second, maintain composure. In the face of temptations, remain steadfast in your beliefs and don’t forget your original intentions. Third, enhance your capabilities. Be adept at learning, maintain a humble attitude, and uphold diligence as a personal trait. Fourth, strengthen your perseverance. One should always aspire, aspire for long-term goals, and steadfastly strive towards one’s objectives with unwavering determination.In conclusion, he hoped that all science and engineering students would continue to inherit the“Da Heng Spirit”and contribute to the country’s development. At the same time, students who choose to pursue further educationarewelcomedto return to HUST and contribute to its development.

Graduates expressed their commitment to always rememberthat they are members of HUST, keeping in mind the“Da Heng Spirit”and the belief of the new generation ofHUSTstudents in the unity of knowledge and action, broad knowledge, and a far-reaching vision.In their future pursuits in learning and work, they are committed to remembering their initial aspirations, advancing with determination, and consistently embodying the essence of life:“Written knowledge is essentially superficial,only personal practice can reveal its truemeaning.”They will unwaveringly strive for a life philosophy that embraces the ideal of“travelling far to attain profound knowledge, and with profound knowledge, achieving wisdom.”Meanwhile, keep high ambitions, avoid the distractions of unsubstantial ideas and superficial fame.
