HUST Hosts Academic Conference and Innovation Seminar

On July 20, the Automotive Electronic Drive Control and System Integration Ministry of Education Engineering Research Center Academic Annual Conference and the 2023 National Power Battery Innovation Technology Seminar, organized by School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, were successfully held. The conference brought together renowned experts and leaders from universities, research institutes, and leading enterprises in the field of power batteries nationwide. Wang Bing, Deputy Director of Department of Industry and Information Technology of Heilongjiang Province, Fu Qiang, Director of the Heilongjiang Provincial Industrial Technology Research Institute, Liu Xia,president ofHUST, andvicepresident Chen Qingguo attended the meeting. Leaders from the Department of Science and Technology and the School of Electrical Engineering, along with faculty and students, also participated. The conference was chaired by Liu Ji, the Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering.
The“Automotive Electronic Drive Control and System Integration Ministry of Education Engineering Research Center”academic annual conference is held every July and August. Its aim is to facilitate exchanges and discussions on the latest research methods, scientific achievements, industry developments, and application prospects in the field. The conference invited distinguished experts from various institutions, including Professor Sun Shigang from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Cai Wei, a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering, Professor Qiu Xinping from Tsinghua University, and Professor Xia Dingguo from Peking University, as well as senior experts from Wuhan University, Nankai University, Tianjin University, and theInstitute of Physics,Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Intheopening speech at the conference, Wang Bing, Deputy Director of the Heilongjiang Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, warmly welcomed the experts and scholars attending the meeting. He expressed sincere thanks to the scientific and technical talents and research management personnel working in the engineering center. Wang Bing pointed out that the new provincial party committee and government resolutely implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions to promote innovation-driven development continually and enhance the level of the industrial chain. To deepen the implementation of the innovation-driven development strategy, improve the province’s scientific and technological innovation capabilities, and accelerate the construction of a scientifically powerful province, the“Special Action Plan for the Electronic Information Manufacturing Industry in Heilongjiang Province”was proposed. Considering automotive electronics as one of the five growth industries actively cultivated by our province, the engineering center should seize the opportunity of the rapid development of new energy vehicles, make efforts to implement major scientific and technological plans, break through key core technologies, and support the leapfrog development of the automotive industry in Heilongjiang Province.

Fu Qiang, Director of the Heilongjiang Provincial Industrial Technology Research Institute, pointed out in his speech that the engineering center should strengthen the integration of scientific and technological innovation and industrial innovation, enhance the depth of industry-university-research collaboration led by enterprises, improve the level of transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and continuously cultivate new industries with new technologies. Leveraging the convening of this conference, he called for the wisdom and strength of all parties to collaborate, develop, and support the transformation and upgrading of high-tech industries in Heilongjiang.

In opening remarks,president Liu Xia of HUST welcomed all the experts, scholars, leaders, and entrepreneurs attending the conference on behalf of the university.President Liu introduced the development history of our university and its profound scientific research and cultural heritage. He also emphasized the university’s forward-looking layout in key industries such as new energy electric motors, new materials, and energy storage technology.President Liu highlighted the university’s commitment to strengthening the connection between advantageous and characteristic subject clusters and key industries, fostering major scientific and technological achievements, and promoting their transformation and implementation. This conference is a strong measure for the university to serve the needs of the national strategic and economic development of Heilongjiang.

Professor Cai Wei fromHUST, as the chief scientist of the engineering center, reviewed the establishment process of the engineering center in his speech. He mentioned that in the current research field related to electric vehicles, battery research is one of China’s strengths. The future is full of potential and possibilities, and the research work of the engineering center should be based on local needs, respond to the calls of the provincial party committee and government, and focus on scientific research and technological breakthroughs in the agricultural intelligentization and electrification of agricultural machinery, contributing to local industrial development.

The academic exchange of this conference mainly focused on the theme of“Innovative Technology of Power Batteries.”Academic exchange activities were hosted by Lv Yanling, Vice Dean of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Chen Minghua. Professor Sun Shigang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a professor at Xiamen University, delivered an invited lecture on theResearch on Lithium Oxygen Battery System. Academician Sun detailed the latest achievements of Xiamen University’s research team in the lithium-oxygen battery system and highlighted the theoretical value and application potential of this research. Liu Yanlong, Director of the Business Department of the China Chemical and Physical Power Industry Association, delivered an invited lecture on theCurrent Status and Market Development Trends of China’s Lithium-ion Battery Industry in 2023. Director Liu interpreted the characteristics of China’s lithium-ion battery industry in 2023 and its future development direction using a large amount of data and industrial examples.

The academic reports during the conference included a presentation by Professor Qiu Xinping from Tsinghua University on theStructure of Solid Electrolyte Interphase in Lithium-ion Batteries and Its Influence on Battery Performance, a presentation by Professor Xia Dingguo from Peking University on theTheory and Application of High-Capacity Lithium-rich Cathode Materials, and a presentation by Professor Ai Xinping from Wuhan University on theIntroduction to the Overall Scientific and Technological Strategic Layout of the Major Special Project for New Energy Vehicles. In addition, researchers including Xiao Chengwei from the China Electronics Technology Group, Gao Xueping from Nankai University, Wang Zhaoxiang from the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chen Zhen from HUST, and Li Gechen from Northern Wisdom introduced the research results and latest research progress of their respective research teams.
