Approved by Academic Degree Committee of the State Council, Harbin University of Science and Technology (HUST) adds four First-level Disciplines for Doctorate Degree Granting, which are the disciplines of “Mechanical Engineering”, “Materials Science and Engineering”, “Instrument Science and Technology”, and “Computer Science and Technology”.

Besides that, eight First-level Disciplines for Master Degree Granting were added to HUST. They are the disciplines of “Applied Economics”, “Foreign Language and Literature”, “Art Studies”, “Mathematics”, “Physics”, “Electronic Science and Technology”, “Chemical Engineering and Technology” and “Mining Engineering”. So far, the number of First-level Disciplines for Doctorate Degree Granting, Second-level Disciplines for Doctorate Degree Granting, First-level Disciplines for Master Degree Granting and Second-level Disciplines for Master Degree Granting has increased from two to four, from fourteen to twenty-one, from eleven to nineteen and from fifty-one to ninety- four respectively.
