The bronze statue of Wang Daheng, the former President of Harbin University of Science and Technology (HUST),academician ofChinese Academy of Sciences and Academy of Engineering, awardee ofDistinguished Medal for China’s atomic bomb, hydrogen bomb and man-made satellite projects, outstanding scientist and educator, was unveiled on Sept. 28^thin Changchun.Meanwhile, the Second Seminar of Wang Daheng’s Scientific and Educational Philosophy was held. Invited by Changchun University of Science and Technology, President Li Dayong, accompanied by Cui Yuxiang, the Director of Publicity and United Front Department, attended the unveiling ceremony and gave a speech on the seminar.

The unveiling ceremony began at 11 a.m. The cold weather did not hinder people of all circles from attending the ceremony to commemorate Wang. At the following seminar, President Li Dayong and Academician Zhou Liwei recollected the reverenced life of Wang Daheng with all the attendees, and also his ordinary and noble personality, practical and profound educational philosophy and forward-looking scientific and strategic thoughts.

In his speech, President Li Dayong interpreted Wang Daheng’s inscription to HUST, which represented Wang’s merits and his hopes for the younger generation. President Li Dayong promised to follow Wang’s educational philosophy to make HUST a cradle in which engineering and technological talents of mechanical and electrical equipment manufacture and instruments and meters are cultivated, with characteristics of “honesty and respect for scholars” as its features.

Before the unveiling ceremony, President Li Dayong, together with the attendees, visited Changchun University of Science and Technology’s University Museum and Science and Technology Exhibition Hall. During the visit, the construction of HUST Wang Daheng Memorial and the design and production work of Wang’s bronze statue were discussed and deployed.
