At 9:00 a.m. on September 22, the 2011’s HUST opening ceremony for freshmen was held on the newly-built stadium of south campus. The whole leading staff of HUST as well as its 20 schools attended the ceremony.

The cerenomy was hosted by Wu Junfang, vice president of HUST, and on behalf of the university, President Li Dayong delivered an important speech on the ceremony. President Li extended warm congratulations and ardent expectations to all freshmen. His wonderful speech moved all the teachers and students present and kept winning prolonged applause.

As the representatives of teaching staff, campus-based students and freshmen respectively, You Bo, dean of the School of Automation, Niu Chenchen, a senior student of Safety Engineering and Zhang Yunkai, a freshman of Automation Engineering, delivered their speeches in turns at the ceremony as well.

The opening ceremony was also an occasion for the freshmen to display their military training achievements, so at the beginning of the opening ceremony a wonderful variety of mass military parade extravaganza was made by the freshmen in presence. Then Vice president Wei Xinlao announced the lists of winners in this military training, and the school leaders presented awards to the winners.

Gao Jun, party secretary of HUST, presented a silk gratitude banner to the representatives of the soldiers and officers having taken part in the freshmen’s military training as drillmasters to thank their highly effective work.
