2012 HUST Graduates’ Graduation and Laureation Ceremony was convened at the 0220 Lecture Hall on West Campus at 2pm on April 5th. The leaders of HUST attended this ceremony, including Party Secretary Gao Jun, President Li Dayong, Vice President Zhao Hong, Wu Junfeng, and Meng Dawei, Vice Party Secretary Lu Yan, Vice President Meng Shangjiu, and Guo Erjun. It also attracted some teachers and students, such as the members of HUST Academy Evaluation Committee, representatives of research supervisors, secretaries and vice secretaries taking charge of students’ work, graduates’ instructors, 2012 PhD and master degree graduates, and graduate students. Vice President Zhao Hong presided at the ceremony, and President Li Dayong addressed the closing speech.

With the solemn national anthem, the graduation ceremony was inaugurated. Vice President Wu Junfeng, Vice Party Secretary Lu Yan, and Vice President Meng Shangjiu read out several decisions and announcements of the university respectively.

The leaders presented the award to the representatives of excellent graduates. As a graduate representative of the 2012, Chen Guangchao extended his great respect and sincere appreciation to our diligence teachers, the high expectations to the junior graduates, and deep attachment and wishes to his alma mater. As a postgraduate representative, Yang Yu gave best wishes to the seniors. Professor Gao Changyuan delivered sincere congratulations to the graduates for completing their studies and stepping into a new stage. He stated that “Our alma mater will always stand behind you, and teachers will always be ready to help you.” Meanwhile, he reminded that our graduates should have a right understanding of oneself in future life: graduates must be diligent, dedicated, free from arrogance and rashness, and keep learning. With the spirit of HUST, Professor Gao hoped that graduates serve alma mater and society with their action.

At the end of conference, Chairman of the Academic Degree Evaluation Committee Li Dayong gave a wonderful speech. On behalf of HUST, President Li extended earnest congratulations and wishes to all the graduates. He also gave the warmest applause to express heartfelt gratitude and high compliments to the families and friends who concerned and cared about graduates as well as our industrious supervisors and teaching staff. In his speech, he reviewed the impressed experience from entering exam to achieving degree, affirmed the graduates’ capabilities in scientific research, practice, and innovation which embodied in academic papers, science-technology competitions, patent application, etc. and encouraged every graduate to lighten the school badge of HUST with action.

President Li Dayong proposed four points of anticipation: hoping students firmly remember school motto of “the unity of moral knowledge and practice, the unification of social commitment and ambitious” to be a person who dedicates himself to his country and people; hoping them inherit school’s outstanding quality of “behave honestly and work steadfastly”, to be a person who is responsible for his organization and loyal to his friends; hoping them unswervingly stick to the style “rigorous and diligence realistic self-improvement”, to be a person who is diligent and persistent in doing his job; hoping them popularize the school spirit of “forging ahead in unity and innovation”, to be a person who adds glory to his school.

After graduation ceremony, school leaders, Academic Degree Evaluation Committee members, supervisor representatives and all the graduates took pictures in front of Building No.1 on west campus.
