Our university has successfully finished project application for 2012 National Natural Science Foundation under the elaborate organization and the teachers’ active participation. The total number for this application is 171 items, including 94 general projects, 71 youth projects, 4 Tianyuan Foundations, 1 key project and 1national science fund for distinguished young scholars. The items to be declared involved in the six science divisions of the National Natural Science Foundation Committee. They are 15 items for Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 7 items for Chemical Sciences, 86 items for Engineering and Materials Sciences, 49 items for Information Sciences, 11 items for Management Sciences and 3 items for Medical Sciences. 13 schools in our university have participated in the application. The numbers are as follows, 34 items from Mechanics School, 28 items from Electrical Engineering School, 26 items from Applied Science School, 21 items from Material Engineering School, 17 items from Mapping Technology and Communication Engineering School, 13 items from Computer Science School, 8 items from School of Automation, 8 items from School of Management, 7 items from Chemical Engineering School, 5 items from School of Software, 2 items from School of architecture, 1 item from School of Economics and 1 item from School of Rongcheng.

In order to do the work well, Science and Technology Department has invited 4 experts from National Nature Science Foundation for counseling report, and organized report meeting for every school to exchange ideas.
