On July 13, 2pm, an evaluation meeting for the frontier pre-search funded projects was held by Heilongjiang Dielectric Engineering Key Laboratory, State Key Laboratory Cultivation Base established by the province as well as the ministry, and Engineering Dielectric and its application Education Department Key Laboratory. Academician Lei Qingquan, the academic leader of the laboratory, attended the meeting; the Director of the key laboratory Professor Zhao Hong, academic backbone of the key laboratory Professor Wei Xinlao, Professor Yin Jinghua, Professor Liu Lizhu, Professor Wang Xuan, Professor Chen Qingguo, and Professor Han Baozhong were present at the meeting as the evaluation experts; some young teaching staff of the laboratory and master students also took part in the meeting.

The Frontier Pre-search Fund is an important measure taken by the key laboratory to encourage the backbone members to conduct the fundamental research in respect of the international scientific and technical frontier and national critical demand concentrating on 3 primary domains of research. The total 14 projects evaluated at this meeting are the 2^ndgroup of project applications since the Frontier Pre-search Fund was founded in May last year. At the meeting, the PPT report of 5 to 10 minutes was given by the project applicant and the experts posed and answered the questions for another 10 to 15 minutes. Finally 7 projects won the project funding through pre-examination, re-examination and anonymous voting.

At the meeting, Academician Lei Qingquan, the academic leader of the laboratory commented every project, giving advice on applicants’ project perspective and research difficulty. He pointed out that every member should expand the horizon to do the innovative research and keep the determined three primary domains of research of the laboratory in mind, the application should be written brief and to the point rather than complicated and one creative point with research value would be enough, and the achievement of the search should be published in the noted journals with a high level.

Other experts attending the meeting exchanged opinions on the research content of every project; the Director of the key laboratory Professor Zhao Hong also gave explicit demands on inviting applicants in other universities to apply for the open project laboratory. (Photos by Han Bo)
