2012 National College Social Science JournalEditorial BusinessTraining andFrontierPublic LectureofAcademic Development, hosted by National CollegeJournals of Liberal ArtsSeminar, undertaken byAStudyof Ideology and PoliticsEducationeditorial office, was held at HUST Plaza from August 13 to 16.

With the theme of developing an understanding of the general situation of social economic development and the basic task of cultural system reform, seizing the chance of system reform anddigitization of non-politicsjournals, trying to improve the quality of editorial staff and periodical-running level, the meeting invited the management section leaders in the industry, famous scientists, experts in the industry to give special reports, and invited editors-in-chief, editors to have academic discussions in depth on the characteristics of journal publication, on raising journal publication to a higher level, and other questions. Editors from national collegesocial science journals and others amounted to 260, the largest number of attendees in all these years.

At the opening ceremony on13^th, those who spoke at themeeting included President Li Dayong, Ding Yixiu, Deputy Director of the Division of the press, General Administration of press and publication, Zhang Yuhong, Deputy Director of Heilongjiang Provincial Press and Publication Bureau, Wu Jingmin, Director-Generalof National Higher School Journals of Liberal Arts Seminar, and Associate Editor ofJournal of Renmin University of China. Yang Shuzhen, Director of Editorial Office of HUST who read a congratulatory letter from Ding Liqun., Director-General of Heilongjiang Provincial Institute of Higher Education School Management Committee. Wang Ge, the Head of Heilongjiang Provincial Bureau of Press and Publication of Newspapers and Periodicals, Wei Xinlao, Vice President of HUST, Lu Yan, Vice Secretary of Party Committee, leaders of relevant departments, and editors ofsocial science journals in the province attended the opening ceremony. The meeting was hosted by Jiang Chongyue,Deputy Director and Secretary General ofNational Higher School Journal of Liberal Arts Seminar, and Editor ofJournal of Beijing Normal University (SOCIAL SCIENCE EDITION)

President Li Dayong addressed the meeting on behalf of HUST. He expressed sincere thanks and warm welcome to the participants, and briefly introduced the general development of HUST. He pointed out that academic journals are an important carrier of the essence of modern civilization, and running academic journal is an important function of colleges and universities. HUST pays great attention to periodical construction, and has set up HUST editorial office, which plays an important role in exhibiting academic success, serving academic research, and improving humanistic quality.

In the public lecture, experts had discussions and exchanges in depth, and gave reports. The participants also had heated discussions on the development of collegesocial sciencejournals, and onbuilding quality columns. During the meeting, National CollegeJournals ofSocial Sciences Exhibition was held.

Since raising the idea of enhancing soft power of national culture, and promoting vigorous development and prosperity of socialist culturein Seventeenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China,the development of journals of social sciences has entered a new historical stage. It has achieved remarkable success in study and publicizing the socialist theoretical system with Chinese characteristics, in advancing of Marist principles in China, the modernization, and the popularization of it, in publicizing the research findings from Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics and Socialist Core Values, in promoting university discipline construction and research base construction, in the culture, cultivation, promotion of humanities and talents of social sciences, and in building a platform for humanities and talents of social sciences.
