Today is a remarkable day. On this day, we wave goodbye to 2012, happily; on this day, we look forward to the coming of 2013, hopefully. As the president of HUST, I would like to take this special opportunity to extend my heartfelt gratitude congratulations and best wishes to all who may concerned with this university for the coming New Year!
The auspicious seasonable snow witnessed the end of 2012, a fruitful and memorable year for HUST. During this year, under the guide of corresponding spirit of the 18th National Congress of the CPC and the Eleventh CPC Congress of Heilongjiang Province, all of my respectful and hard-working colleagues devoted their whole heart to the carrying out “the 12th five year” planning for HUST, managed to override numerous difficulties and adversities, and constantly get landmark achievements in constructing HUST into a higher-leveled university.
In 2012,wewon the support ofMOE’s “Outstanding Engineers” Pilot Training Plan intwo majors,setsixnational engineering practice education centers,andwasapproved asanimplementation unitof “National College Students’Innovative & Entrepreneurial Training Plan”.
In 2012, we carefully carried out the preparatory work of experimental classes for elite students, completely revised of the diversification scheme of the talent training and the top-notch innovative youth personnel training plan, as well as responsibilities assessment for the whole teaching staff.
In 2012, we went through the Provincial Thematic Evaluation on the Course of College English, and successfully launched our own assessment system for the management level of undergraduate teaching, as well as thesupervision mechanismfor the construction level of teacher’s academic morality and students’ study style.
In 2012, we hit a higher record in scientific research, including more projects supported by national natural science fund and humanistic social science fund, more authorized patents more scientific papers published by the three retrieval systems, one more center for post-doctoral studies, two more provincial leading talent echelons
In 2012, we won more honors of various levels and fields, eg, three Key laboratories was granted “excellent” in provincial evaluation, our USTP ranked the second in MOE’s evaluation on Northeast of China, 5 professors were awarded or rewarded as Longjiang scholars, etc. Besides, HUST successfully ranked into “The first batch of national pilot schools in educational informationization”, and was named “national staff sports demonstration unit t”, too
All the above achievements were made through the joint efforts and supports from you, my respectable HUST teachers and students, alumni and friends, and on this specific occasion, I should say thank you with my highest salute to all of you, for your wisdom and sweat, for your tolerance and patience!
The upcoming2013 is a critical year for us to promote “the 12th five year” planning for HUST, and we have to admit that we are facing a lot of difficulties, especially the unprecedented financial operation difficulty, which need all of us unite tighter to continue our career for applying our pragmatic spirit and pioneering spirit, together with our persistent efforts to create 2013 new brilliant!
Let’s review the famous saying of “no empty talk, more practical work” stressed by Party Secretary Xi Jinping, and the slogan of “behonest man, do solid work” initiated in HUST, try our best to build HUST into a high level university with “people’s satisfaction, social recognition, and everybody’s admiration”. I do believe we can do it. Yes, I do believe!
