Delegation Led by Vice-President Meng Dawei to Belgium to Discuss Joint Education Program

At the invitation of Group T-International University College Leuven (Group T), Mr. Meng Dawei, vice-president of HUST, visited Group T with a delegation of three persons on October 29thto November 1st. The visit has achieved its expected target and a complete success has been obtained.

During the visit, President Patrick De RYCK met with the delegation, expressing warm welcome to our party, hoping that through access to further understanding and discussing both items of interest to achieve substantive results. Vice-president Meng Dawei extended his great thanks to their thoughtful arrangement, and hoped that through the visit to have a fully understanding of Group T with a discussion of joint education program.

During the visit, the delegation had talks with Board Officer, Director of Management Department, Professor Guido Vercammen; International Cooperation Project Manager, Professor Srinivas Kumar Pinjala; President of Engineering School, Professor Koen Eneman; Vice Director of Academic Affairs, Madame Sabine Bercrutsse and Internationalization Strategy Assistant, Vice-president Hu Yunhao. Board Officer Guido Vercammen firstly remembered the visit with pleasure about his visiting to our university in March this year, and again extended his gratitude for our hospitality, hoping that through this visit to strengthen mutual trust, establish cooperation, and sign the cooperative agreement. Afterwards, he introduced the university, especially about implementations of joint education program with several Chinese universities. Professor Guido Vercammen accentuated that Group T would have been officially incorporated into the University of Leuven since October 1st, 2013; all signed agreements would be recognized, as well as all the faculty and students. Vice president Meng Dawei introduced detailed about the development of our university, and talked about “2+2” joint degree program, such as majors and scales of recruit students, admission requirements, courses scheme, course arrangement , expenses and certificates. The represents of Group T answered questions one by one, and gave answers to the questions we concerned about, such as study for master degree and doctor degree after graduation.

Besides, the delegation visited teaching buildings, electronic Lab, electronic machinery Lab, chemical Lab and biochemistry laboratory; had observation learning of the classroom teaching and discussion between students and teacher; visited student’s cafeteria and canteens, look around student’s dormitory and had a conversation with overseas students from Shanghai Jiaotong university, Beijing Jiaotong university, and Southwest jiaotong university, and learned their life and study in this university.

After rounds of consultation, the two sides formed a mutually preliminary recognized joint education agreement based on the original draft. Both sides agreed to sign an agreement after the approval of both sides’ presidents.

The University of Leuven was founded in 1,425 and was honored as the “National University of Belgium”, and ranked sixth in the whole Europe. The University of Leuven has 26,368 students, 4,663 professors and researchers, 2,492 managers and technicians, 7,030 medical staff of Medicine School. There are three campuses in Leuven, and one in Korec. There are 13 faculties and 50 department, 240 sub-departments, 61 programmes, four of which are English programmes, 102 postgraduate courses, 36 of which are English –teaching courses. Apart from these, there are 295 scientific research organizations with an average research fund of 12,000,000 Swiss Franc. Annually, 2012 kinds of scientific publications are issued, 260 persons obtain doctorate. It has one central library and 23 branch libraries with 42,000,000 volume collection of books and with subscription of 14,500 kinds of magazines. The leading position of the university in the research fields are Semiconductor, Microelectronics Nanotechnology, Biological Information and Biometric, Stem Cell Research, Clinical Medicine, Medical Photography, Nervous System, The Movement Treatment and Rehabilitation, Trauma psychology, Genetics, Food Science, The Actuarial and measurement Actuarial, EU Law, Construction and Protection of Ancient Architecture, and Cryptography.
