Hosted by HUST and co-hosted by Automatic College, ICMIC2013 was held from August 16 to 18 in Harbin University of Science and Technology. The Conference appointed our vice president Wu Junfeng as the chairman, and many well known scholars from the UK, Russia, Japan and Korea as its International Supervisory Committee. More than 300 experts gathered in Harbin to discuss and exchange on the newest research and development situation of the four fields—Measurement and Sensors Technology, Computer and Information Processing Technology, Control Theory and its Application, and Electromechanical Integration.

The opening ceremony was presided by Professor Jeng-Shyang Pan from Electronic Engineering Department of Taiwan National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences (KUAS), and vice president of HUST, Professor Wu Junfeng addressed the ceremony. The three major keynote speeches afterwards are conducted by Professor Vadim Zhmud, vice dean of Computer and Control College and head of Automatic Department from Russia Novosibirsk State Technical University on Feedback Optimization for Robotic and Mechatronics System in the department of Automatics in NSTU; Professor Jacek Kabziński, head of Automatic Control Department from Poland University of Lodz on Compensation of Friction-Fuzzy Models and Adaptive Backstepping; and Professor Jeng-Shyang Pan on Intelligent Wireless Sensor Network.

After strict examination, 337 out of all the collected 540 papers were selected for the conference and will be published by IEEE with EI (CA) retrieval, and 50 excellent ones will be recommended to international journals and with EI (JA) retrieval. ICMIC2013 is better than before in terms of papers’ inclusive rate and quality as well. Meanwhile the number of international papers and guests increased so as to promote the influential power home and abroad. Experts and scholars from 10 foreign countries including Russia, Poland, USA, and Japan, and 258 domestic institutes attended actively and sang high praise for the organizing, reception, and effect of the conference.

President Li Dayong, vice president Wu Junfeng, Director Xi Zhaohui of International Cooperation and Exchanges Department, Dean You Bo of Automatic College, and Party Secretary Zhang Taifu of Automatic College had a meeting with foreign experts over intercollegiate academic cooperation and students exchange.

With the convening of this international conference, we not only created a platform for HUST in the scientific field, promoted our academic research level, international influential power, but also achieved the goal of mutual understanding. During the symposium, we appointed the foreign experts to editors of Journal of HUST, which opens a new window for the edition and publication work of our university to the world.
