On August 29, hosted by Professor Song Qingkun, vice director of HUST’s Department of Teaching Affairs, the opening ceremony of HUST’s Undergraduates’ Study and Sci & Tech Competition Achievements Exhibition as well as the 2013’s HUST Awards-giving Meeting for Study and Sci & Tech Competition was held in the new lecture hall of West Campus.
HUST president Li Dayong, vice president Meng Dawei and leaders in charge of all teaching units attended the meeting.
Vice president Meng made the opening speech to express his heartfelt appreciation to all who have supported and devoted their whole heart in the study and Sci & Tech competition as well as his warmly congratulation to all who are awarded this time. He also stressed the significance of holding this competition, and encouraged the students to make persistent effort to pursue better achievements.
Ge Baojun, director of Department of Teaching Affairs, read out the names of students as winners and their guide teachers, whom were awarded by the participating leaders then.
As two most excellent guide teachers, Tong Ziquan, a professor from School of Measurement and control technology and communication engineering, and Fang Guozhi, a professor from Electrical and electronic teaching and training center, were awarded Distinguished Contribution Award, the top award of the meeting. President Li and Vice president Meng presented then the awards.
Professor Tong and Zhou Zhou, a students from School of Computer and Controlling, addressed on behalf of all teachers and students awarded respectively.
To sum up, President Li delivered his important speech. He confirmed the achievements HUST has made since 2000, pointed that the brand new stage HUST had reached and called on to spare no effort to build HUST into a high level university with “people’s satisfaction, social recognition, and everybody’s admiration”.
According to President Li, from 2000 up to now, HUST’s students have won more than 4000 awards at provincial levels or above, including 20 international first prizes, 87 international second prizes, 94 international honorable mentions, 207 national first prizes, 423 national second prizes, 329 national third prizes, most of which were granted during 2012, when more than 3000 students participated in a variety of competitions and1076 students were awarded.(Photo by Li Shanqiang)
