Recently, the evaluation of 2013 Heilongjiang Outstanding Youth Science Fund has concluded, and 20 applicants have got the titles of Outstanding Youth, of which Han Zhidong and Wang Monan are from HUST. Remarkably for the first time, two scholars of HUST got such titles in one year and it was the sixth consecutive year for scholars of HUST to get such honor.

The selection of Outstanding Youth was valued highly in HUST. The recommended candidates were judged strictly; after the preliminary assessment, in accordance with the close tracking process requirement for high-level talents selection project by the competent president, the documents checking was organized actively, as well as the oral defense rehearsal. The managing experts from Heilongjiang Science and Technology Bureau were invited to review the application documents of the finalists and give valuable advice and suggestion. At the meantime, the Department of Science and Technology has organized the oral defense rehearsal for six consecutive years to improve the oral defense quality, inviting the experts and scholars who had been elected Outstanding Youth to give intensive and meticulous analysis on the content, form and other aspects of the oral defense, giving constructive suggestion for the potential questions in the defense as well. The leaders of HUST and relevant experts and scholars gave strong support; Vice President Wei Xinlao, Vice President Zhao Hong and some experts and scholars having got the titles of Outstanding Youth participated in the activities mentioned above respectively.
