On the afternoon of May 17, under the host of Jiang Yufeng, the dean of HUST’s School of Foreign Languages, an international round table meeting named “The Promising Sino-Russian Cooperation in the 21stCentury” was held in Conference Room II of HUST’s new main building on West Campus, with the attendance of 20 experts from China, Russia and some other countries, including Zhao Hong, HUST’s vice president.
As one of several events of the International Symposium between China and Russia titled “The History and Future of Sino-Russian Cooperation”, the round table meeting was launched jointly by HUST, Russia’s National Normal University of Blagoveshchensk, Confucius Institute, and Heihe College, aiming at building a platform for the academic exchange of scholars from China, Russia, etc.
The attendants engaged in a heated and deepened discussion on issues in the fields of social science, such as the current international situation, Russia’s population policy in its Far East regions as well as the overall cooperation between Heilongjiang and Russia’s Far East regions. Prof. Vladimir Yakovlevich from Institute for Far Eastern Studies of Russian Academy of Sciences and Malkar Jeda (transliterated name) from Workshop of East Asian Countries Study of University of Lodz, Poland, took the floors one by one to deliver their own study reports on the round table.
After the round table meeting,Yuri Pavlovich, president of National Normal University of Blagoveshchensk, donated Vice President Zhao Hong a book named as “China: A Traditional Country in the Process of Modernization”, one of the proceedings of the International Symposium “The History and Future of Sino-Russian Cooperation”.
It is the first time for HUST’s School of Foreign Language to hold International Symposium, which shows the great progress it has made in academic exchange with Russian universities and shouldaccumulate precious experience for hosting similar meetings in the future.
