Mainly sponsored by Teaching Direction Committee of Ministry of Education for Electrical Engineering Majors of Institution of Higher Learning and hosted by HUST, 2014 National Outstanding Engineers Education Symposium for Electrical Engineering Majors of Institution of Higher Learning was held in HUST from January 2^ndto 4^th, 2014. Outstanding Engineers Education Plan is a national key reform project; this symposium was held to give necessary direction to the universities for the implementation of Outstanding Plan since 2010. Over 150 representatives from the Ministry of Education, Provincial Education Bureau, 60 colleges and universities and relevant publishers attended the symposium, and leaders, deans and the backbone teachers of the majors implementing the Outstanding Plan in HUST took part in the meeting as well.

At the opening ceremony, Vice President Meng Dawei addressed a speech, extending welcome to all the leaders and representatives on behalf of HUST, introduced the implementation of Outstanding Plan in HUST, hoping the meeting would give direction to the plan and expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education and Provincial Education Bureau for the direction and support all those years, and to the Electrical Education Committee for the trust to HUST. The Vice Director of Science and Technology Department of Ministry of Education Hou Yongfeng gave an important speech, specifying the implementation and common problems on Outstanding Plan. Director of Higher Education Department of Heilongjiang Provincial Education Bureau Ding Zhexue also addressed at the meeting, stating that Heilongjiang province making great contributions to the industry, Outstanding Plan gave the main direction for Heilongjiang provincial higher education comprehensive reform. He hoped that through the symposium, the colleges and universities of Heilongjiang would learn some precious experience, further deepening the higher education comprehensive reform. Vice Director Member of Education Direction Committee of Electrical Majors, Professor Ge Baojun addressed on behalf of the Education Direction Committee, expressing gratitude to the superior competent departments and HUST for the support to the symposium, making an introduction to the working plan of the Education Direction Committee to the representatives and notifying the schedule of the symposium. The keynote speeches of the symposium were all given by representatives from 985-Project sponsored universities and colleges, 211-Project sponsored universities and colleges, universities and colleges under the administration of Heilongjiang provincial government and enterprises.

This symposium provided the electrical majors of national institution of higher learning implementing Outstanding Plan with a platform to explore, exchange and promote the education competency for engineering, and also accelerated HUST to improve the teaching level for the Outstanding Plan majors.
