HUST Grants Zhang Ming’s Alumni Self-improvement Scholarship

On Dec. 19, 20 HUST undergraduates were granted Zhang Ming’s alumni self-improvement scholarship by HUST’s Education Development Foundation, and became the first group of beneficiaries of the scholarship proudly.

The alumni self-improvement scholarship is set up at the end of this August to help some HUST undergraduates coming from poor families of countryside but being excellent in character and learning to fulfill their studies better. Its dedicator, Mr. Zhang Ming, is the presidents of Foshan Mengtai Digital Control Technology Co. LTD and Suzhou Mengtailibao Optics & Electronics Co. Ltd., as well as one of the 10th NPC representatives of Guangdong Province.

As one of HUST’s alumni majored in automatic control from 1979 to 1983, the senior vice chairman of HUST Alumni Association in Guangdong and the chairman of HUST Alumni Association in Foshan, President Zhang is always paying close attention to the development of his Alma Mater. From this summer, he kept on getting in touch with HUST’s leaders and Office of Alumni Affairs to promote his educational sponsoring project.

According to the agreement President Zhang has made with HUST’s Education Development Foundation, the alumni self-improvement scholarship will be good for five years with a total of ¥500,000 to award eligible undergraduates from HUST’s School of Automation, School of Computer Science and Technology, School of Measurement-Control Technology and Communication Engineering, School of Mechanical and Power Engineering, or School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Every year, 20 beneficiaries will be selected after the preliminary assessment in their individual schools, the overall review of HUST as well as the final verifications by President Zhang himself, and each of them will be granted ¥5,000.
