On the afternoon of Oct. 9, chaired by Party Secretary Zhao Guogang, HUST’s “Zhixing” (meaning “Study & Practice”) Forum was held in the Lecture Hall on the fifth floor of the New Teaching Building,West Campus. Professor Huang Daren, famousChineseeducationalist, was invitedas a guest lecturerto host the forum and delivered a report entitled“Some Tips on Promoting the Connotation Construction ofChina’sUniversities”.

The aim of holding this forum is to improve the whole HUST working staff’s humanistic quality as well as their management capability in education or teaching, enhance the construction ofHUST’scultural soft power and promote itsconnotation construction.All members of HUST leading staffat all levels,the wholeworking stuffofeachoffice,and most of theprofessors and associate professorsfrom every teaching unitattendedthe forum.The report was televised live to Rongcheng Campus, too.

In his report, with the entry point of the establishment of modern university institution, Professor Huang articulates his ideas on promoting the connotation construction of universities, from four aspects, i.e.how to accurately orient a university, how to arouse enthusiasm of its schools, how to create good administrative environment, how to put slogans intopracticalactions. He alsohighlighted the importance of cultural atmosphere, esp. theadministrativecultural atmosphere, and call for more doers—better doing than complaining.

Party secretary Zhaoconcluded the forum. He spoke highly of the reportand pointed out thatunderthe background of theParty’sMass Line Education Practice, all HUSTwhole staffmembers shouldstudy thereport,integrate itselite to the spirits ofcorresponding documentaries and took practical actions topromotetheconnotation construction of our university.

Professor Huang is the vice chairman of Guangdong association of science and technology. He was once worked as the president Sun Yat-sen University and created the so-called “Li-Huang Era” (with Li Yanbao, the Party secretary of Sun Yat-sen University then), one of the fastest developing phrases of the university since its founding year of 1924.（Photo by:Liu Chang）
