No. 422 HUST Students’ Forum was held in lecture hall of No. 1 Teaching Building on April 23, 2014. Dashan, a good-will ambassador from Canada, the first foreign comedian in China and the winner of maximum lifetime achievement award was invited to deliver a speech.

After the host’s opening speech, Dashan came on to the stage. His fluent Chinese, natural dress and humorous language left a deep impression on all the students. He talked about his memorable experiences and anecdotes in China. Since he was 19 years old, Dashan has had great interest in Chinese, and begun to study Chinese for 4 years. Because of this, he opened his life in China. From initial look to permanent residence, he has spent 25 years in China. Through the effort of these years, he likes to become an excellent cultural ambassador. He is fascinated by the profound Chinese culture, and believes that language is the carrier of culture. From cross-talk to talk show, he enjoys a lot, and tries to interpret Chinese culture and customs from western perspective. He says he also needs to go deeper understanding of Chinese folk customs, and finds inspiration from the life of common people. He also shares his story with Jiang Kun and Yao Ming.

In the last section, Dashan interacted with students for a long time. Sometimes, he acted as a senior person, telling students that learning is the absolute principle. Sometimes, he acted as a friend, hoping students to switch roles while thinking and take more social practice. The audience repeatedly applauded. In the end, Dashan took pictures with students and guests.
