Vice President Zhao Hong Meets with Education Experts from New Zealand

On the morning of May 16, Vice President Zhao Hong met with the education experts from New Zealand, Professor Graeme Aitken, Dean of Faculty of Education of the University of Auckland and Professor Laurence Zhang, Vice Dean, as well as their entourage, at the Conference Room 2 of Main Building on Western Campus.

Vice President Zhao Hong expressed a warm welcome to the guests from New Zealand on behalf of the school and spoke highly of the academic lectures given by Professor Graeme Aitken and Professor Laurence Zhang to the students and teachers of Harbin University of Science and Technology and the heads of Departments of Foreign Languages of the colleges and universities of the entire province as well. Vice President Zhao Hong pointed out that in recent years, with the efforts of International Exchange and Cooperation Office and the School of Foreign Languages, the cooperation between HUST and the University of Auckland in many aspects had been strengthened and the University of Auckland had become an important base for HUST students’ further education and teachers’ training. He hoped that in the future students and teachers from more and more different majors could have the opportunity to go to New Zealand to develop and study. Meanwhile, Vice President Zhao Hong proposed some framework suggestion for the high level academic exchange and research cooperation.

Professor Graeme Aitken and Professor Lawrence Zhang extended heartfelt gratitude for the service they got during the visit at HUST, and introduced the achievements by the University of Auckland and the Faculty of Education in talents training and academic research. They specially mentioned the current situation of Yu Jing, a young teacher of the School of Foreign Languages of HUST, and Teng Lin, a graduate student from HUST, who had been studying as English doctors in the University of Auckland and said that they two represented the top academic research level of foreign students in the University of Auckland. They hoped that more talents would be sent by HUST to the University of Auckland for the visit and further education.

Finally, the two sides exchanged ideas on specific issues of expanding inter-school exchanges and cooperation between the two universities and implementation of talents training.
