On May 1, in the meeting room on the 17thfloor of HUST’s new building, west campus, President Li Dayong and Vice President Zhao Hong had a cordial reception meeting with Professor Dan Shechtman from IIT(Israel Institute of Technology), the Israel Nobel prize winner in chemistry, as well as his wife, Professor Tsvi Vinig from Amsterdam University, Netherlands, and another famous Israel scientist, Professor Yossi Dashti from Ben-Gurion University, Israel, who accompanied Professor Dan Shechtman to pay the visit to our university from May 1 to 2, at the invitation of President Li Dayong.
President Li firstly expressed his warm welcome to the arrival of Professor Shechtman and other distinguished guests on behalf of the whole HUST staff, and extended his congratulations to the great success Professor Shechtman had made in his study, esp. the winning of Nobel Prize in chemistry of 2011. He also briefly illustrated the development of HUST, as well as the Jewish Culture in Harbin, and wished this visit might help to further the cooperation among. HUST, IIT, Amsterdam University and Ben-Gurion University.
Professor Shechtman showed his deep appreciation to President Li's warm reception and spoke highly of the help HUST had given to Israel people during the special period of WWII. He introduced some background information of his family, his study and IIT’s running system, and his best wishes for the friendship and cooperation between Israel and China.
Some cadres and teachers from HUST’s School of Economy, School of Economy, International Cooperation & Exchanges and Discipline Construction,etc, as well as Professor Li Zheng from Jilin University, attended the reception meeting.
