From Nov. 7 to 13,a mission made up of Zhao Guogang, Party secretary of HUST’s CPC Committee, Xi Zhaohui, director of HUST’s International Cooperation & Communication Department and Song Qingkun, deputy dean of HUST’s toured around parts of USA and Canada in turns for a working visit to three of her sister universities, i.e. UCSD, ISU andUC,upon the invitation of the leaders of these universities.

UCSD, or University of California, San Diego, is a public research university located in the La Jolla area of San Diego, California, USA, near the coast of the Pacific Ocean. Established in 1960, it is the seventh oldest of the 10 University of California campuses and rated the 20thTop World University by CWUR’s 2013 rankings.

ISU, or Iowa State University of Science and Technology(more commonly known as Iowa State University), is a flagship university of the Iowa university system. Located in Ames, Iowa, USA, and founded in 1858, ISU is classified as a research university with very high research activity (RU/VH) by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, as well as a group member of the prestigious American Association of Universities.

UC,or University of Calgary, is Canada’s leading next-generation university in Calgary, one of the most enterprising cities of Canada. As a major Canadian research-intensive institution, it has more than 200 academic programs and rank among the top 10 worldwide, according to the QS ranking.

The mission achieved a great success. Party Secretary Zhao and his entourage received warm welcome from all the above three sister universities during their visit. They met corresponding leaders there, introduced relative information of HUST to them and exchanged viewpoint on the issues concerned by both sides, and looked around the campuses accompanied by them. Cooperation agreement and memorandum were signed between HUST and all these universities.

In fact, just before flying to America, Director Xi and Vice Dean Song also made a visit to Chubu University, Japan, from Nov 4 to 6, when they took part in the celebration of Chubu University’s 50th anniversary, conveyed the congratulation of HUST’s President Li Dayong to the hosts, explored the prospects of further inter-school cooperation with them and conducted plenty of communications with the delegations from other countries at the celebration, as well as held a symposium with some of HUST international students studying there to learn and guide their school work and daily lives.
