HUST Students Win Good Results in Computer Design Contest for Chinese College Students

The 7thNational Computer Design Contest for Chinese College Students ended on August 19th, 2014. There were more than 1,500 teams from about 300 universities attending this grand contest. The programHe-Ne Laser Wavelength Measurement by Virtual Michelson Interferometerguided by the teachers from HUST’s School of Computer Science and Technology, ranking the top in virtual experiment team, got national first prize, and performs publicly at the closing ceremony as excellent works. Another three programs from our universityEvolution, a Slim Chance of Survival and Application & Development of Micro-message Platformwon national second prizes. Besides these 4 works, there were other 5 works getting the third prizes in the previous provincial contest, making the record in this competition.

This was a comprehensive university students’ contest, co-held by the following organizations: Ministry of Education Higher University Teaching Instructive Committee of Computer Science, Ministry of Education Software Engineering Instructive Committee, Ministry of Education Higher University Teaching Instructive Committee for Computer Courses, etc. The contest covers 7 types of content like computer software application and development, education courseware, digital media design software outsourcing, etc. It aims to improve university students’ comprehensive qualities and foster all-round developed talents with creative, practical and compound abilities. It has been held successfully for 7 years, and the degree of difficulty increases year by year. More and more universities send teams to participate, which includes Peking University, Jilin University, Northeast University, Shenzhen University, Tongji University, etc, making the historical record in the number of attendance.

This contest lasted 5 months from the preparation of provincial competition to the national final. During this period, we received much support and attention from our universities presidents, leaders of teaching Affairs Office and the heads of Computer Science and Technology School. The students, guided by the teachers from Computer Science and Technology School, made their great efforts to prepare for this contest and achieved the best results in the end.
