From August 11 to 15, 20 casting-majored alumni in their 60’s who were enrolled in HUST in 1974, gathered in Harbin to celebrate the 40th anniversary of admission in their Alma Mater.

Vice President Guo Erju took part in the gathering on behalf of HUST’s leading staff, together with Ren Shanzhi and Wang Mengchun, two former vice presidents of HUST as well as the dean and / or lecturer for the alumni, Liu Jun, the former Party secretary of HUST Logistics Group as well as another casting-majored alumnus of grade 74, Du Longxue, the former Party secretary of HUST’s School of Measurement and Communication Engineering as well as a casting-majored alumnus of grade 75 (as the monitor then) and Yan Chengbin, Meng Fanyu, Wang Xubao and Chen Fang, four retired HUST teachers as well as the former leaders or lecturers of these alumni.

It was on the morning of August 12 that all these alumni arrived at HUST’s “Home of Alumni”, where they were arranged to live in by youth volunteers of HUST. As theeldest alumni who had experienced living there ever since it was built, they wondered at the great improvement indormcondition comparing withthecondition they once had some 40 years ago and kept on urging volunteers(also HUST’s undergraduates) to cherish their study time.

Volunteers presented the alumni nice gifts HUST had prepared in advance and at noon, accompanied them to have lunch in the first canteen of West Campus. Then thealumni went to South Campus to visit HUST HistoryMuseums and recalled their valuable memories from those photos of old buildings and yellowing teaching plans exhibited there.

In the afternoon, thealumni came back to West Campus, took photos together within the “motto stone”infront of the new teaching building, and looked around the library, lecture theater, south teaching building and north teaching building in turn. At last, they held asymposium with vice president Guo and their former leaders and lecturers, who were moved a lot then when these white-haired men stood up together and bowed twice to express their graduate and respect to HUST on exchanging their own living and working information.

It is worth mentioning that Class 74-1 of Casting was one of the most outstanding classes in the history of HUST, with many graduates working on the most important jobs, most of whom, though having retired now, always kept on concerning and donating to their Alma mater. During this reunion, these 20 alumni made their another donation to HUST Education Development Foundation, and adopted 10 poplars on Green Square, which signified the meaningthat it took ten years to grow a tree while a hundred to bring up a generation of good men, as wellas their heartfelt wishes toward HUST to cultivate more and more excellent talents for China in future.
