Good news from Russia. Under the guidance of the Director of theSchoolofArt Lin Xueweiand Instructor Miao Hong, graduate student of Grade 2013 of HUST Pang Yu representingChinatook part in the 2015 Russian Cup International Snow Sculpture Competition and got the Grand Prize.
Russian Cup International Snow Sculpture Competition is one of the most influential snow sculpture competitions inRussiaor even in the world. The competition took place in the city ofPerm,Russia. 9 countries sent delegation teams to sign up for the competition and by the sculpture design drawings submitted by the candidates, the committee selected 15 teams from 9 countries, namely China, Russia, Latvia, Malaysia, France, Japan, Thailand, Argentina and Italy, to enter the final. Through 5 days’ fierce competition, the entry entitledVoice of Chinafrom the graduate student of HUST Pang Yu won the Grand Prize, which has been the best achievement by the graduates of HUST ever. The work employed the Chinese traditional elements as the main illustration theme. On the back side of the three Peking Opera masks, Chinese dragon, Chinese knot and doorknob shaped in the head of lion were sculpted respectively, displaying Chinese traditional elements and graphic patterns to the foreign countries.
In the cultivation of graduates by theSchoolofArt, the practical competency is always being taken as a priority. Through 8 years’ unremitting endeavor, organizing the graduate students to participate in the national and international high-level snow and ice sculpture competitions has become a highlight in the cultivation practice of graduates of HUST. TheSchoolofArtwill make persistent efforts in the future work and win greater honor for the school.
