The student reporters of university newspaper have long been preparing for the interview of Professor Li Yan, but they have not interviewed him yet, for every time they pass by his office, he is busy doing research. This time, after several times of communicating with professor Li, they settled the interview time. Last weekend, standing at the office door of Professor Li, we found that he was still doing his scientific research. During the interview, Professor Li communicated well with the student reporters and the interview went smooth and harmonious.
Passion for the education cause
Professor Li became a teacher in 1989, and till now it has been 25 years. He devoted himself to teaching and scientific research work, and he is such a workaholic that sometimes he even forgets his meals. Now, Professor Li have made great achievements in scientific research and instructed hundreds of students. He was awarded “Outstanding Young Teachers”, “Outstanding Teachers” and “Moral Standard Teacher” etc. At the same time, he hosts and takes part in 5 provincial teaching research projects, and guides more than 10 national and university students’ innovation test projects. Speaking of hobbies, professor Li is very excited, and he says playing football is his great interest.
Professor Li believes that a teacher should first have responsibility and love. Teachers should consider from the aspect of students. He improves his teaching method in order to arouse students’ learning interest. In the class, he may focus on the difficult points and connect them with the practice. Professor Li cultivates a great number of computer professional talents, which is the pride of both HUST and himself.
Doing research to promote education
Professor Li says, “The purpose of doing scientific research is to promote education.” If teachers want their students to receive good education, they must do scientific research. Professor Li is very glad to make progress with the students. From 2003, he complied teaching materials in order to combine with the development of the times.
Treating students as his own children
Professor Li not only instructs students in scientific research, he also helps students in their daily life. For example, he often buys his students books which are relevant to their major. Sometimes, he may treat the students in the nearby restaurants when they devote themselves in the scientific research work.
Those graduates and postgraduates who have graduated from university often go back to the university to visit Professor Li. Every time the students come across the difficulties or troubles in work or in life, they may call to discuss with Professor Li. During the festival, Professor Li may receive many messages from his students who express the best wishes for him.
Professor Li is such a teacher: he doesn’t take teacher as a vocation, but as his own cause. He always put his students as the first place. In his eyes, teacher is a responsibility to students, university and society.
