At 16:00 of January 8, 2014 Alumni Self-improvement Scholarship Award Ceremony was held in the Second Conference Room in the New Teaching Building. Those who attended the ceremony were Yang Chun, who was the Chairman of Labor Union in HUST and vice Director-General of Education Development Foundation, Ji Donghai who was the Chief Accountant of HUST and Secretary-General of Education Development Foundation, Zhang Taifu who was the Secretary of General Party Branch in Automation School, Wang Qi who was the Deputy Director of the School Office and Director of the Alumni Office, Tang Shixin who was the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee in Mechanical and Power Engineering, Yang Fang who was the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee in School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Dai Xiangzhu who was the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee in School of Computer Science and Technology, Liu Kunyan who was the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee in School of Measurement and Control Technology and Communication Engineering, and counselors from some schools.
On the awarding ceremony, Yang Chun, on behalf of our university and alumni, expressed congratulations and encouragement to the students who won the award. The alumni office informed the leaders, teachers and students of the selection process and result of 2014 Alumni Self-improvement Scholarship. Eventually, the leaders and teachers awarded the honor certificates and bonus to the students from above schools.
Alumni Self-improvement Scholarship was set up in 2013 by Zhang Ming, the honorary chairman of Fo Shan Alumni Association, who donated 500 thousands to encourage 20 excellent and self-reliant students with economic difficulties each year. The bonus standard is 5000 yuan for each student. According to the will of the investor, the 20 students are elected from the undergraduate students with economic difficulties from five schools, namely, Mechanical and Power Engineering School, School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Automation School, School of Computer Science and Technology, and School of Measurement and Control Technology and Communication Engineering. The election of 2014 Alumni Self-improvement Scholarship officially begun on Dec. 12th, after the students’ application, the schools’ combined evaluation, the examination of Education Development Foundation, the check of alumni and public notification, finally, 20 students were elected. Till now, there have been 40 students becoming the beneficiary of Alumni Self-improvement Scholarship, which promotes the students with economic difficulties to be self-reliant and hard-working.
