Harbin University of Science and Technology had the first plenary meeting in the new semester on the afternoon of Sep. 1 in the second conference room in the new teaching building. Professor Li Dayong, the HUST President and the director of university academic committee, hosted the meeting.

Professor Wei Xinlao, the vice-president summarized the general work of the academic committee and made the plan based on the situation of our university. There are 39 professors elected as the members of the academic committee.

The revised Academic Regulations for Harbin University of Science and Technology has the following features:

Firstly, it makes sure the authority of the academic committee. The Regulations deal with the academic problems and give directions to the specific committees.

Secondly, it gives a definite instruction about the proportion of professors and associate professors in the academic committee.

Thirdly, it defines the power of the academic committee. The academic committee may investigate and solve the academic problems according to the relevant rules.

Fourthly, it promotes the normal work in the academic committee. The Regulations make rules concerning the meeting rules, routine meeting, etc.

The revision of the Regulations emphasizes the value and function of the academic judgment and academic rules, and at the same time, may perfect the modern university rules. Principal Li Dayong hoped that our the teaching staff could make more contribution to the university prosperity and development.
