Students of Korean Department Finish the 2nd Place in 2015 National University Students Korean Speech Contest in Northeast

On Nov. 21st, National University students Korean speech contest in northeast China was held in Yanbian University in Jilin Province. The speech contest is the largest and the most authoritative Korean speech contest in China, which is very influential in higher institutions. Eighteen Universities with Korean department attended the contest. Each university was allowed to send two contestants. The champion and the runner-up will represent the Northeast to participate in the national final contest. The form of the contest consists of initial selection in terms of recording, prepared speech and talking about pictures, which is exceedingly demanding in one’s linguistic proficiency. The delegates are from Yanbian University, Jinlin University, Liaoning University, Dalian Foreign Languages University, Northeast Normal University, and Heilongjiang University.

Under the support of HUST Teaching Affairs Department and the School of Foreign Languages, Korean Department appointed Ms. Song Lanlan as the supervisor and Wang Dongmei as the participant. After five hours heated competition, Wang Dongmei won the second place through accurate pronunciation, excellent linguistic proficiency and great adaptability. Together with the champion and another runner-up, she will participate in the final contest in national level on behalf of the Northeast China.

Many participants in the contest used to study in Korea, whereas Wang Dongmei won the second place without any foreign study experience which displays the great importance attached to the Korean Department by the School of Foreign Languages and the fruit of Korean teaching in HUST.
