On the basis of the working schedule of the Office of TeachingAffairs in HUST, Professor Jiang Yulong from Fudan University was invited to deliver a speech entitledOnline Courses Help the Innovation of College Teachingin the lecture hall on the fifth floor of the main teaching building on the morning of December 11 to help HUST keep pace with the trend of the fast development of education and the teaching reform at home and abroad, to pursue the further promotion of the teaching staff construction, to seek for the improvement of our teachers’ teaching proficiency, to deepen the comprehensive reform of teaching, to enforce the long-term mission of the teachers’ cultivation and to accomplish the hybrid teaching to be proceeded in an all-round. Hosted by Deputy Director Song Qingkun from the Office of Academic Affairs, the speech was attended by nearly 300 people who were Party Committee Secretary Zhao Guogang, Vice President Meng Dawei, Director Liu Shenghui from the Office of Academic Affairs, Dean Wu Qiufeng from the Center for Higher Education Research and Quality Assessment, supervisors from HUST Supervision Group, deputy Deans in charge of teaching affairs in all colleges, heads of all departments and leading teachers.
At the very beginning of the speech, Deputy Director Song Qingkun expressed his warm welcome and thanks to Professor Jiang Yulong. Having introduced Professor Jiang’s great achievements in online teaching in recent years, Song passed along the microphone to Professor Jiang Yulong.
Referring to his own teaching researches and teaching experiences, Professor Jiang Yulong illustrated how to accomplish the interactive teaching by providing a large number of examples of the great advantages of the hybrid teaching drawn from the comparison and contrast between reversal type teaching mode and traditional teaching. The 2.5 hours’ speech was made easy to understand theoretically and practically and the attendees’ interest and curiosity was greatly aroused. Professor Jiang Yulong answered all the questions raised by the attendees like how to make an effective interaction with the students online and offline, how to assess the students and etc.
As the speech coming to its end, Director Liu Shenghui thanked Professor Jiang Yulong again and thought highly of his wonderful speech. He hoped that all the attendees could understand how to do well in reversal classroom teaching, how to make the interaction between teachers and students better, how to get a clear understanding of hybrid teaching and how to implement well the coming O2O course construction. He said that online courses were the important assistance for classroom teaching, and O2O courses were just like most effective activators for educational reform. He also hoped that teachers in HUST, combined with the actual situation of our university, should take the good practices of Fudan University as references in their future job and establish a group of high-qualitied hybrid teaching courses by making full use of the platforms provided, so as to further promote the educational and teaching reforms, and lay a solid foundation for the ideal effects of teaching, for the promotion of personnel training and for the cultivation of undergraduates in our university.
