On Nov. 21st, “client-server robot under dangerous working condition” designed by Wang Jianan, Wang Haitao, Huang Zhiyuan, and Li Chen from Rong Cheng School of HUST was awarded the second prize in the 14thNational “Challenger” Competition.

Under the innovative social background, Rongcheng School attached great importance to the scientific innovation. It is a tradition for Rongcheng School to carry out students science festival, extra-curriculum innovative experiment and education, SIYB training and encourage the establishment of academic and scientific society. Scientific innovation gradually becomes the leading trend of the School.

In the process of designing the robot, the experimental team once encountered the problem of deficient experimental instrument and limited fund. Vice Director of the School Du Ye attached great importance to the program and encouraged the team to pursue the goal. In June, 2014, under the support of the School, the School provides the team with fund and facility. The client-server robot team took form.

The team comprises eight undergraduates from mechanic design and manufacturing, mechatronic engineering, electronic information engineering, which is characterized by cross-discipline. The team is harmonious, tolerant, and helpful, and the strength of each member can be developed to the fullest extent. According to the interest and academic background of each member and the requirement of the robot research, the team was divided into different group including simulated analysis, structure design, systematic design and control.

In Dec., 2014, the first generation “client-server robot under dangerous working condition” was displayed in the fourth science festival of Rongcheng School. The novel controlling mode of the work and the promising marketing prospect appeals to the experts. Finally, the work was awarded the first prize in the science festival. After the perfection of the work, the robot was awarded the first prize of “Challenger” competition in Heilongjiang Province.

To realize a novel idea is nothing easy, and to convert it into a complete work is even more arduous. In the process of improving the design of the robot, the team make a lot of breakthroughs. Under the support of the school, numerous experiments and improvements have been carried out. Success is invaluable just because it derives from bitterness and hard work. The college life of the team is totally different from their classmates, which help them accomplish their design.
