On the morning of June 1, the opening ceremony of the 11th IFOST (International Forum on Strategic Technology) was held in Novosibirsk State Technical University’s auditorium. At the invitation of the organizing committee, HUST sent a delegation with 11 members from School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, School of Computer Science & Technology, School of Measurement-control Technology & Communications Engineering and Department of International Cooperation & Exchange, to Russia from May 30 to June 3, to make academic communication and seek more cooperation with other universities and colleges attended the forum in education and scientific study, and so on.
The opening ceremony was hosted by Professor Vadim Nekrasov, vice president of Novosibirsk State Technical University, with President Anatoliy Bataev extending his welcome to all attendees. HUST’s Director Xi Zhaohui from the Department of International Cooperation & Exchange delivered his speech on it, and then, on behalf of President Li Dayong, granted a diploma of “Honorary HUST Professor” to Professor Tsoy Evgeny, the former vice president of Novosibirsk State Technical University who had been in charge of international cooperation & communication for nearly 30 years and made outstanding contributions to the multi-field cooperation between HUST and Novosibirsk State Technical University, as well as the founding of IFOST.
IFOST is an international meeting held by some scitech universities, such as University of Ulsan (Korea), Tomsk Polytechnic University (Russia), Novosibirsk State Technical University (Russia), HUST(China), Mongolian University of Science & Technology (Mongolia), Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (Bangladesh), etc., in turns. From 2006 to 2015, 10 IFOSTs were held successfully in Korea, Russia, China, Mongolia, Vietnam, Bangladesh and Indonesia successively, esp., in 2011, the 6th IFOST hosted by HUST won wide praises from all attendees of both home and abroad.
Now IFOST has become an important platform for sci-tech universities to communicate and cooperate in education and science study as well as to enhance their own international reputation and influence. As for HUST, some 150 teachers and students were sponsored at the public expense of university to attend the forum and some 200 papers were published for the last 10 years, and 21 teachers from 5 schools contributed 23 papers to the 11th IFOST. Some teachers made oral presentations on the forum at its invitation, too.
During this forum, the HUST delegation visited Lab of Motor & Control and Lab for Simulating E-mobility, etc., in Novosibirsk State Technical University, and some delegates interviewed the Russian scientists studying in similar fields to them to exchange information and discussed their commonly concerned issues on jointly apply for Sino-Russian sci-tech research projects, while Director Xi met the delegates from Tomsk Polytechnic University, Novosibirsk State Technical University, University of Ulsan and Mongolian University of Science & Technology in turns to exchange ideas on exchange of teachers & students, collaboration and cooperation of science & technology, esp., introduced the government scholarship program to foreign students studying in HUST, which aroused great interest among other delegations attended the forum.
Director Xi also presented in the meeting of IFOST international committee as a member of the committee to review the 11th IFOST, revise the invalid regulations and probe the developing trend of the forum. According to the resolution made by that meeting, University of Ulsan was authorized to host the 12th IFOST.
