The 2011 National College Students’ Mathematical Modeling Competition was held from Sep. 9thto Sep. 12th. Nearly 60,000 college students from 1250 colleges of 33 provinces/cities/municipalities (including Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Macao Special Administrative Region), Singapore, America and Iran has participated in this competition. After meticulous review by the jury experts, the prize list has been announced recently. HUST students have gained good grades, winning a National Fist Prize, five National Second Prizes and the first, second, and third prize in eleven competition regions. Students from only two colleges of Heilongjiang Province have gained the National First Prize, one from HUST and the other one from Harbin Institute of Technology. 17 teams out of the total 30 participating teams of HUST have gained prize above the regional level, with a prize ratio of over 50% percent. The excellent record of HUST is not only a favorable evaluation of the mathematical modeling competence in HUST, bust also a full recognition of the mathematical modeling work in HUST.
The excellent record has been gained through the mutual effort of the contestants, their advisors and relevant departments of HUST. Before the competition started, the guiding team of mathematical modeling trained the contestants; during the competition, the advisors patiently instructed the contestants; relative departments of HUST offered sufficient help in terms of the competition venue, information access, and network support. That is to say, today’s achievement is mutually contributed by the perseverance, hard work, teamwork of the students and the industrious work, patience and responsibility of the advisors.
